Pros: Easy setup, Only needed 1 usb port for KB&M
Cons: Does not keep USB initialized when switching (See final thoughts for more), not fully compatible with older computers, bad lag when typing, little in the way of documentation, no KB combo to switch displays (as far as I can tell. There was no real user manual). I am returning this KVM for something better.

There was no real user manual). I am returning this KVM for something better. I have owned a computer repair business for the last 15 years. These 15 years has seen a switch from Midi port to PS/2 to USB. For the last 4 years we have been using PS/2 KVMs, but with most newer computers, you are lucky to see 1 PS/2 port if any at all. I decided it was time for an upgrade. This KVM seemed to be highly rated and the reviews were generally positive. Though this KVM might be good for the average user, it is in no way, shape, or form suitable for computer repair use. Since it combines both KB & M into a single USB port, many older machines cannot pick up both devises. On several machines I have worked on, it would only pick up the keyboard, leaving the mouse non-functional. Often we have to boot into a ?live PE? environment for a repair.

Pros: Inexpensive. Switch box relatively well constructed and heavy so it doesn't move around, nor does it have to be mounted to the desk.
Cons: No hotkey switching. My Windows XP (SP2) machine routinely loses USB connection when switching back & forth, forcing me to restart the system. It may be conflicting with my graphics tablet but I haven't tried troubleshooting this, as the tablet is the only thing that allows me to save my work and reboot.

low cost 2 port switch; easy to install disables my front USB ports when in use. If I use my DVI connection to monitor and connect a seperate mouse up front (USB), I can insert a USB stick in my other front port and can verify that my computer finds it. As soon as I switch to the computer via the KVM switch, the computer drops all the devices on my front connections. Must be due to the way it combines kbd/mouse on one USB connections that is monkeys with the other interrupts.

Cons: Not crazy about the push button. I had on old PS/2 KVM that used a hot switch and I didn't have to see or touch it. Routing the cables to the front with output cables coming out of the back make it difficult to situate on desktop. Switching can be slow sometimes and button "mashing" must be deliberate. No tapping allowed.

Pros: A simply but well constructed and implemented KVM switch. Does what it's supposed to do. I use it when I'm connecting computers that I'm repairing to my monitor. It runs at 1680x1050 with no visible artifacts in either normal use or gaming.
Cons: Perhaps once a month moon the mouse won't respond after I wake the computer. Simply hit the KVM button twice and voila! the mouse works again. There's no need to reboot or anything, so I'm not letting this affect my rating.

Pros: Cheap, works well for my needs for a 2 port USB KVM, oh, and did I mention its cheap?!
Cons: Does not allow switching devices through a hotkey combination. Ive used KVMs from TrendNet and Linksys that allowed you to switch between the two by pressing SCROLL LOCK twice. This was useful if you wanted to tuck the KVM under the desk out of sight, but with this unit, you have to have the button handy so it can be pressed. This isnt a huge deal to me as this switch is being used for my diagnostic desk, but it would be nice if it supported both methods.

I have not experienced any ghosting with this, but then again, the highest resolution I am running is 1680x1050 and am not doing any fine detail work, like in Excel or Photoshop. This is a $20 KVM. This unit connects the keyboard and mouse to the computers over a single USB connection, that was a surprise to me. It is a good value for the price we paid.

Pros: Excellent price, good construction, works fine.
Cons: Cables all should exit the rear. Instead, they branch out of opposite sides, making the desk layout clunky. Because one cable is the stiff one for the monitor, it does not sit where you might want it to. This is made worse by having the PC cables come out opposite the video cable.

It doesn't constantly power the USB connection so when you switch computers it makes the USB Unplugged and USB Recognized sound in Windows. The KVM Cables aren't as long as other KVM's I've used but I didn't run into a problem in my setup. It might be listed in the specs, but I would eyeball the cables as 3-4 feet long. Not enough real cons to make me mark it down a star.
