I've had this for about a week and the only downside are that 1) your computer you are not using will think that the USBs are disconnected, not really a big deal, and 2)the device will use up 2 usb ports and you can't use a non-powered hub (I might be wrong about this) to convert the 2 usb cables per computer into one. Otherwise it works and it's cheap. [...]

    Pros: It works... sometimes
Cons: As others have said - good luck getting it to reliably work in DOS, Windows or Linux due to the emulation or whatever causes it to quit working when switching between machines.
The biggest irritation is having it work on machine 1 and switching away to another machine only to come back and machine 1 will maybe recognize the mouse or the keyboard... or neither one (until you reboot... but even that does not always work).

I bought this for my computer repair business back in 2009 because I also have the older 2 port version which works great and has never suffered the issues I've had with this.
IOGEAR really dropped the ball on this one - save yourself the hassle.

I use it to connect 2 laptops and get them off the desk and out of the way. It was quick and easy to plug in but I find that the monitor doesn't always kick in fast enough. I have to cycle through the 4 ports a few times and snap the laptop cover shut a couple times. Also, since I only have 2 hook ups the remaining 2 KVM cables just take up space. I wish the unused cables could be disconnected but they're hardwired in.

Pros: Control multiple computers (duh, that's what it should do)
Cons: Switching speed and keyboard recognition on Vista
This KVM works, but it's not perfect. I'm only using 3 of 4 ports, but I must cycle through all four ports regardless of the fact one is not in use. Also, the delay sometimes for the USB keyboard/mouse to be recognized again upon changing computers/ports can be quite long some times (like 10 seconds). If your switching to a computer where something like a Skype call is coming in and wan to mouse click the answer button then you can't count on being successful before it goes to voicemail--I found that out. Also, I have a Vista system that just will not recognize the keyboard if I used the KVM, so I had to set up a separate keyboard for that system--kind of defeats the purpose of the KVM there! However, all in all it works as it should.

I've used this switch to run two computers with one keyboard and one Wacom tablet. This couldn't be easier to install and works exactly as promised. The remote switch is extremely useful, in that in my setup, the kvm device itself is under the desk, and the remote switch is located on my desktop next to my mouse/tablet. The only improvement I could think of is to have the indicator led's on the remote rather than on the unit. I would highly recommend this item.

Pros: Easy to install. I have to say it works flawlessly, quickly switching between my systems with no noticeable lag. i like the fact that all I have to have sitting on my desk is the small selector button and that the cable for it is extremely thin.
Cons: The cables are too short. They are 4 feet long but I wish they were about 2 feet longer than they are for a total length of 6 feet or even a 2M length would be good.

Easy install. no problems. Setup was simple. none Using this with wireless mouse and keyboard. initially had to rescan the keyboard and mouse but once set up it has worked like a charm. possible note... for me when setting up with the wireless... use the usb cable that is not marked with a keyboard on it... basically each set has one marked and one not. since the wireless uses only 1 usb connection you only use one for all the other connections.

At first, like any KVM with integrated cables, it might seem like a box of spaghetti....but don't let that fool you! Once the cables were untangled (probably as much my fault as anyone at the factory!), it hooked up quickly, and the keyboard/mouse were immediately recognized by Windows once plugged into the KVM. The remote switch is especially handy for me, as the computers I'm hooking this up to are 5-6 feet away, and I'd have to get up to change the switched location if it weren't for the wired remote. So long as this lasts longer than the Rosewill unit it replaced, I'll be happy!!

I use the KVM to connect my 3 work PC's and my laptop to a single Keyboard/Video/mouse setup. The toggle button is much nicer then using the scroll lock double tap with the 2 port unit. It is lacking a shared audio connection, but that isn't something that is overly needed. (but was on the 2 port version)

I have a number of different operating systems windows, Linux on various computers and I was skeptical about the switch. But I was pleasantly surprised at the ease with which I was able to connect 4 computers. The button to switch between them is small and effective and I am happy that I decided to purchase the 4 port. I have to say if you are thinking about connecting different computers to a single screen, keyboard and mouse this is the answer. The only negative is that the cables cannot be split so if the usb ports and far from the video port it can be a problem.

Pros: *Great cost to performance ratio
    *Does what is supposed to
*Good size (easy to hide) and cable length
*Does not make a horrible beep like some KVMs
Cons: *Takes a solid two seconds to switch between ports but I am guessing some of that has to do with the comp picking up the devices since there is no emulation (not a huge deal as long as you are not impatient).
*Switch trigger button does feel cheap (adding a shortcut key feature would make this a non-issue).
*You need to cycle through all ports even if they are inactive (would be nice if it was smart enough to skip unpowered ports).
    *Great cost to performance ratio

Pros: works fine with mac, like the USB support
Cons: win98 and freebsd desktops lose keyboard/mouse response after a few switches
works fine with mac, like the USB support win98 and freebsd desktops lose keyboard/mouse response after a few switches I bought this switch mainly in the hope of switching between my main freebsd desktop and an old win98 machine I set up to play some older games. My intention was to mostly work on the freebsd desktop and just switch to the win98 box on occasion. And it worked, briefly. Unfortunately, both of these machines stop recognizing the keyboard and mouse after a few switches, necessitating a reboot of both machines. The video still worked fine, however. I don't know if it's a problem with the USB input drivers on those operating systems... perhaps I should have gone with PS2 but I already had USB devices. I haven't had a chance to try it with Linux or a more recent Windows version yet.
As an aside, it works flawlessly on my G4 iBook that is also hooked up to the switch. Have not had any loss of connectivity or performance issues; even recognizes the volume controls on my non-mac keyboard.
