I bought this in the hopes of being able to use an older (large and once expensive) Wacom Intuos GD graphics tablet on a newish Mac Pro running OS-X (10.5.8). Initially, the combination did not work but then I found a freeware program called Tablet Magic that got the devices talking to each other. (I have no connection with that software maker but was pleased to find it). Some of the pen responses can be a little twitchier than I'm used to (with my USB tablets) but otherwise this adapter (and that software) has made it possible for me to use an old serial connection Wacom GD tablet on a current Mac. So, the product seems to work as described for this use. That's impressive when one considers that Wacom says this should not be possible (with usable results).

No fault of the equiptment, it's a limitation in Wacom's drivers apparently, the adapter DOES see the tablet in Win7.

Pros: supposed to offer best compatibility??? 3 days ago, before purchase, I called in to keyspan to check compatibility. Tech offered that they were waiting for Certification of their Win7 driver and might come out end of month. Also said the device uses a TI chipset (I wanted to make sure it was not prolific).
Cons: Will not work with Quick Basic V4.0 compiler. Same program works with a Cables-to-go prolific adapter (with XP driver as win7 driver has bug). On Keyspan, the blinking light will not go solid when opening the com port in Quick Basic. (Will open with FreeBasic, but no good for my app.) Called Keyspan and got no help. I was told if the adapter works with something else, then, it just is not compatible with QuickBasic. Even running the "immediate" mode of QuickBasic, opening com2 does nothing. That's it. I will send in an email to see if I can get help.

Got this device, loaded the software (CD included) on my Vista 64 bit machine, plugged the unit in, and it worked great with my Garmin GPS 12. No muss, no fuss, no drama. No searching around for 64 bit drivers. The only thing is to pull up the quot;Keyspan Serial Assistant quot; software and note which COM port it has assigned itself to (in my case, COM6). If you have a Vista 64 bit machine, you can try other brands and models, poke around the web for official manufacturer drivers, beta drivers, or third party drivers. Or you can use this and just get to work

Pros: It works solidly when others don't. USB A to B connection a minor plus.
Cons: I haven't broken it yet, but it's just a matter of time. The case is 2 shells held together by integral finger clips. These generally break easy. I suppose for some, the ability to take it apart easily could be a plus, but is outweighed vastly by the danger of breakage. This can be overcome by taping or gluing it, but shouldn't be needed on at 3x the cost of competing units.

A great many times this kind of device is needed, it's used by a software app that may not have passed the highest commercial test rigor. Also, directly accessing hardware, which windows only 'tolerates', has the makings of crash written all over it. The standard Prolific driver that comes with most of these adaptors crashes apps and bluescreens occasionally. This one does not, at least for our uses. Thirty bucks is nothing compared to the business cost of even rare crashes, so stability gives

This is the only usb to serial convertor that I have found to do true two way communication. It works great. I have to use it with older programs that require modems and as we all know getting a computer with a db-9 is about inpossible.

The device seems a little bigger than the photos show, but installation is simple. After installing the driver, the configuration applet made the set up of the virtual COM port quick and easy. The tool tips in the applet give helpful explanations and suggestions for all the various settings, but the tool tips must be enabled first on the Help tab. Once the serial adapter was configured, I plugged it into a Keyspan US-4A USB server that I already had and now the serial console port on my modem is connected through my LAN. The two devices, the serial adapter and USB server, work together flawlessly and provide transparent access to the modem s serial port. I m so impressed with the USA-19HS that I just bought another one.

Pros: Looks like a good product, but DOA.
Cons: Device DOA. Device manager shows "TUSB 3410 Boot Device", which according to Keyspan's FAQ and "it indicates that you have a defective Keyspan USB Serial Assistant. Stop here and contact Keyspan Tech Support for further assistant."

Pros: Light, fast, and it is the only converter that I found that works on a Mac. It comes with drivers that work, and an easy installation. It also has a detachable USB cord, so if you don't have room for all of it in one space, you can break it up.
Cons: It's a bit big, and pricey.

While it's more expensive than other cords you can get, it's much easier to use. If you have Windows, you can get a cheaper one, but if you have Mac, this is the only way to go.

KEYSPAN ROCKS, The software that comes with the serial port device allowed me to change from port 5 (which I could t use) to port 2 (which was an open port). The software also allows you to view which serial ports are being used by which devices!!!!!,And then change them!!!!! Again the best serial software out there.
