This drive helps me utilize Adobe Photoshop CS5, and, especially, Adobe Bridge, more efficiently. I partitioned the drive into three sectors, one of which is dedicated as a scratch disk for Photoshop work, greatly enhancing the speed of that software. The drive was easy to install. I used Windows7 software to format/partition the drive, foregoing using the Seagate software; thus I can't comment on that. No problems to report. It simply works as advertised.

I wish I could give this little gem a 6-star review! I replaced a dead hard drive with it and, as I said, the install was completely seamless, did it myself, and hardware is not my strong suit. Just make sure you know what you're doing and follow the instructions. I'm seriously thinking of getting another one so that I can have 2 TB of storage (I'm a video hobbyist) instead of 1 TB.

    Pros: the space for price

I needed to upgrade my computer for some video work that I had taken on - I now have (2) 1TB Seagates (7200.12) installed that just keep on rockin! Boot-up time has almost been cut in half from what used to be inside (5900 OEM WD hard drive) and they are super quiet when working!

As my main hard drive began to fill up with pictures and I no longer had room for a backup, I decided to get some drives dedicated to my documents and pictures. I chose this drive based on price, performance, size, and reviews. They arrived and were extremely easy to install. They included the necessary cable for connecting the drive to the motherboard as well as an power cable adapter. I did not need to use the power adapter as my computer had the proper connections already available. The included software made it easy to add and partition the drives. As far as reliability, I have only had them for about a month and have had no problems.

Pros: Previous Seagate drive is good, expect same from this one.
Cons: Installation software does NOT work.
Bought this drive today because I wanted a lot of additional storage space. Existing hard drive (dual boot XP/Win 7) is a Seagate. It has been good to me so I expect the same with this HD. Bought the retail kit to get the screws and connectors for easy installation. Glad I did. Needed the screws and power connector. Did not need the data connector though.
All went easy until I tried to boot the machine after installing. It would not boot. The manual said to check the Setup BIOS. OK. When I did, I found that it WAS detecting the drive - but the dumb thing was trying to boot from it. So I told it to boot from the original HD with the OS actually on it.
Now the machine boots up. Installed the DiscWizard software as directed and rebooted the machine again. Went to start the DiscWizard to install my new HD as additional storage. THE PROGRAM WOULD NOT RUN AT ALL. It told me that I must have a Seagate HD installed on my system. Isn't that what I just installed? AND the existing HD with (2) OS installed on it is a Seagate.
Had to use my existing Partition Magic program to format the new HD and make it functional. The DiskWizard software from Seagate does not even recognize the HD it comes packaged with.

Pros: Quiet, easy to install, great tools included to pull the data off the failing disk.
Cons: Price was low, less is best.
Drive slid right in above old driive connected to system and was recognized first time booted. Included tools allowed for formating the new disk and partioning to take the exisiting data and partitions from the failing drive and move then to the new larger drive as the same size or increase the size. This worked great, made the transition easy, I swapped the cables on the drive to make the new drive primary and the system booted from it and it has worked perfectly ever since, that is about a month now.

    Cons: nothing, yet
I bought this drive as my 120gb seagate barracuda wasnt doing the job anymore. It still works fine but i needed more storage.
It comes w/ the sata cable and power cable, instructions were easy, setup took like 5 mins at most. Super quiet, pretty fast, 931gb after formatting. Comes with software for formatting, partitioning, cloning, creating an image of your system, etc. Pretty good deal for the price. Couldnt be happier with this drive.

Pros: replaces a four year old seagate - love the reliability
Cons: it says it is MS 7 compatible - but not in the manual or on-line
I am avoiding Western Digitals from here on out, WD either in our desktops or laptops have not been holding up like the Seagates have.
The Seagate said it was MS 7 compatible, but the instruction booklet and their website do not include MS 7 and the small changes from VISTA took a few minutes to figure out.

    Pros: The price
    Cons: No reliability
This drive lasted 3 months. Ane quite honestly I really did not use it that much. It was primarily used for data storage, not program running.
It started clicking constantly and shutting down and starting up over and over again. Apparently this is an epidemic with these drives.
Yes, Seagate will replace it but from what I've read, the replacements exhibit the same problems after a short while.

    Cons: Formatting takes a while
This was such a good deal for my son's Christmas present that I got one for me, too! Each drive was simple to install; XP and Win7 had no trouble recognizing them; formatting takes time, but after all, it's a huge drive.

Pros: Easy to install, comes with drive testing and copying utilities.
    Cons: included software is poor,
The product was easy to install and configure, as most internal hard drives are. It's also surprisingly quiet
My only complaint is that the included software for copying an old drive to the new wouldn't let me enlarge the partition to fill the whole drive.

Pros: Got it on sale for $94
Cons: Only lasted 4 weeks before it started clicking and clunking
This drive worked great for about a month, until it started clicking and clunking, even if the computer was idle doing nothing. I ran the seatools disc dianostic program from seagate's website, and it failed the full scan test, and after the test it sounded like nuts and bolts rattling around, so I quickly copied my music and documents over to a old 300gb I had laying around and returned this drive. I exchanged it for a Western Digital 1TB and just paid the difference in price.
    November 20, 2009 Fastidious says:
Pros: It plugs in; it works. It is a good value for the price vs capacity. What would 1 TB have cost only a year ago?
Given its relative speed and size, it seems a better value than the Green drive.

Pros: Price, Easy to install, 5yr Warranty, SPEED!!!!
    Cons: None so far
I bought this for my 3 yr old desktop - It replaced a 250 GB factory HD. I installed the drive in minutes, only 2 connections, Power and Sata - The software was easy to install and use. I started cloning my old drive to the new - went to sleep - and when I woke up, I disconnected the old drive and turned my computer on - Now I have a brand new computer again! Quadrupled my memory for less than $100 - I will definitely be getting another for additional memory - The greatest thing about Seagate VS. Western Digital - This drive has a 5 year warranty, what do you have to lose?

Pros: Easy install, relatively worry free if it doesn't quit
Cons: I bought 3 identical drives; one failed abruptly without warning in month 14
I have three of these drives but 1 failed after 14 months. They typically either fail within the first couple weeks or years of use. This guy failed abruptly after just 14 months of moderate use without warning. I'm learning the hard way to be vigilant about backing up your data. In general, I'm disappointed with this drive which should have performed better. I'm trying a Western Digital Black next.

Pros: Nothing, it will make you sad...
Cons: To many things, but mainly you will loose all your stuff!
    1. Replacing Firmware does not always get your data back! Best case is that your computer will see a new blank hard drive.
    2. If you have a failed drive you can now get the manufacturer of this drive to recover your data, if you are lucky you will not have much on it because they charge by the file. If you scream real loud you might get it for free.
    3. Be prepared to wait a long time form the manufacturer, they are behind.
    4. Other companies charges start in the $2800.00 just to look and see if they can get your data. Our bill for 3-1tb drives was $27,500.00, wish this was a typo! It took the company 5 days straight, 24 hours a day to recover 85% of our data. A 15% loss of data for us equals we do not know if we will survive! Oh ya the second company to look at the drives only cost us $5800.00, but they could not recover anything at all!
You will pay in the beginning or in the end, but you will pay!

    Pros: Easy install.
Cons: Drive failed in less than 6mo.
Not a bad drive all around. Easy and quick setup. However about 6months later the drive is making this band sounding click and scraping. RMA process is ok. They make you send the drive first or pay 20 bucks to have one sent to you in advance with 140 dollar penalty if you do not return the drive. I however do not have enough storage on my other drives to accommodate all the data on the failing one. I'm going to get a Western Digital drive like my other 3 that have not failed in over 3 years.

    Pros: 5 year warranty
    Cons: None so far
I bought this drive to upgrade the 160GB drive inside my Tivo HD. I more than quadrupled my recording space and so far have no complaints about this drive. It runs warm but not too hot. The noise is trivial, as with most modern hard drives. The main selling point of this unit is the 5 year warranty. As with all hard drives, it is bound to fail at some point. So whether it's 3 years down the road, or 4, this drive has the upper hand on Western Digital. This is the main bullet point in my book.

I'll probably end up getting more of them. I've had great luck with Seagate products, and been using them for over 10 years now. These current two have been in use for 4 months.

    Pros: It wasn't DOA
    Cons: Time Will Tell
It's quite, I did some benchmark research before I bought it. My fear, after searching all over the net, was that 1+ terabyte HD's have a high failure rate. I went with the 1TB drive instead of the the 1.5 for various reasons; once installed, I've had no problems...however, I was uneasy once the package arrived....
I previous account didn't update in BB's system after I corrected the mailing address, before placed the order. A delicate HD shipped to an old address....I was concerned. I contacted my old address, they would personally hand me my shipment, along with some comments about the box. For UPS...the box was banged up...whether dropped or mishandled, I don't konw...
Long story short, it works, installed easily and I'm greatful that the DOA doesn't apply to me. If it does, I'll add another review.

    Cons: Discontinued?
This is a great drive. Has good read and write times and a 5 year warranty from a name like Seagate I'm sold. I currently use this for data storage and system back up. Only problem I have with this drive is that I can't find any information on this model from Seagate's website nor can I register it for the warrany. The site reports it as an error though and not that the serial number is invalid. I've already owned this for about 3 weeks and it works fine but I'll be more confident in this drive if I got the warranty to back it up. Otherwise this is a great hard drive, plenty of room for movies, music, and whatever else you plan on using it for.

I had this drive for less than 2 months and it failed completely and suddenly with no warning. It spins up but will not even mount so that I can erase the data and return it for replacement. 3 different disk utilities can not access it.

Installing this hard drive was simple and quick. Seagate has done a good job at making the transfer of information from the old hard drive to the new one. It took me about 1/2 hour for the whole process.

Pros: Easy to install and use.
Cons: Pain to remove the tiny SATA1 jumper.
Bought and installed four in May and zero failures thus far. Nice and quiet in eSATAII box, no temp problems. 5-year warranty is worth an extra $10-$20, IMO--especially on a 1TB drive.
