Pros: Compact, Lightweight, and Supposedly Energy efficient. That about does it for the Pros
Cons: If your looking for a cheap solution that will boost you're file transfer speeds, this will do it. However only at about 3 times faster than a decent 100Mbps switch.
Large Data Dumps with only two computers and only getting about 25 MB/s (That's ~ 200Mbps) My Ten year old Linksys EF4116 Gets about 8Mb/s on average (That's ~ 64Mbps) 200/64 = 3.125

Has fewer ports and smaller packet buffer than the equivalent netgear switch, although the netgear switch is somewhat more expensive. My only problem has nothing to do with this switch. Make sure you have good quality network adapters connected to this switch if you want to use jumbo frames. My built-in marvell yukon can't seem to handle jumbo frames and chokes on transfers, so while you're here, pick up a couple of decent network cards!

Easy to setup, just PnP and go at 35mb/s. Wasn't free. Note: Does not route an internet connection, however, when connected to a router upstream, internet is available on all ports, as the router is doing that work. This is a common misconception for many people.

Pros: I have had this switch running for over 1 year as a Gigabit backbone for access to my NAS server without any problems.
My media players stream through this switch, and I get an average of 70 MB transfer rates and as high as 80 at times.
I've only had to reset the device a few times over the past years but that was in the course of resetting my modem as well (they share the same power strip)
I would definitely recommend this product.

    Quick-start quide.
More energy-efficient than some of the competition. Power-brick does not say it is for Trendnet. The switch itself does not list its power requirements. This is a comparitive review of a D-Link DGS-2205 and TRENDnet TEG-S50G. The Trendnet came with a paper quick-start guide, Dlink came with a CD (which I have not checked out). Both are wall-mountable, but only the Dlink came with mounting kit. Both claim to be green, but my Kill-a-Watt says the Trendnet uses slightly less power (and the box says more about HOW it tries to be green).
Both work; haven't done any performance tests.
Points to Dlink for listing the power specs on both the unit and the power brick, and for putting their name on the brick. Trendnet did NOT put the power specs on the unit, and the brick does not have the Trendnet name, so good luck if you ever let them get separated and mixed with other components.
Overall they seem about equal, depending on your priorities. Both are "4" with me until Trendnet fixes the power bricks and Dlink reduces power consumption.

Easy to setup. Gigabit. Not compatible with my hardware. I have a Trendnet Wireless router TEW-633GR and a Gigabyte MB EP45-UD3P. Drops connection incessantly! Removing the switch solves the problem. I replaced the switch with a Netgear and the problem is fixed. I do not know the cause of this problem but I bought 5 of them and I have had them too long to return them as this is one of those problems that I did not identify right away. I kept thinking it was my cable company since a reboot of the router and modem would fix the problem. I suspect the problem is with the compatibility between my Trendnet router and the switch as i experienced the same problem when hooking a second one up elswhere in the house. Sad that these devices are incompatible and sold by the same manufacturer.

Pros: -Amazing case design for the price, same steel as $500 large network switches
-Looks really easy to take the cover off, only 2 easy to reach screws.
-Paint job is better than my $120 computer case's coat.
-Only uses 1W of power when only my desktop is connected with an 8Ft cable.
    -Heavy
-Comes with rubber feet that you can put on if you're not going to hang it on the wall
-Barely warm even when browsing rich web sites with 3 computers attached for hours.
-Transmits farther than my dang router can. This guy supports full 1Gbps speed on 100ft cable, but my stupid linksys garbage router dumps it down to 100mbps when I plug it directly into the router. Stupid wireless router.
Cons: I know it sounds kind of whiny, but if I glance at the led readout real quick, it looks like the 1000MBps lights are on if the 100MBps ones are lit. You have to look at it dead-on to discern the difference. Perhaps I'll take some foam and create cells for each light so they won't do that crud.

'Green' design uses only as much power as is required. None thus far. My son's college has one wired gigabit Ethernet connection per student in campus housing. Students may not attach wireless routers. This TrendNet switch is a cost-effective solution allowing one wired connection to handle a network printer or two, a game system, and multiple computers. It can also be unplugged from the campus network to provide a quick private LAN in a lounge when sharing files on a group project. The green design powers down unused ports, and adjusts signal strength to the length of the cable attached.

I was running a router for my downstairs PC's and another Router off that one for my upstairs PC's. Had a lot of problems with router settings. I wasn't sure if a switch was going to be any better, so I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it. This Switch is now running off the main router and has solved most of the issues. Now one router takes care of the entire house. Also, my son borrowed it the other day to have an XBOX LAN party with his buddies. Apparently you can just plug in the consoles and they are networked.
