I thought my burner might be going bad so I tried a different machine and still had problems. I then tried some other older Verbatims of the same type and they burned fine on both machines. I think I'll stay away from 30 packs that go on sale for 29.95 from now on.

Pros: Okay. I've recorded hundreds of single layer DVDs. This is the first time I have gotten dual layer DVDs. I got tired of all the skips and pixelation recording D-9s onto D-5s. Too much compression. So I relented and bought the more expensive D-9s. Happy day! I love the results. And, no coasters. So, the format is good and this brand is good. Great combination.

This is the first time I tried the double layer Verbatim DVD+R. I usually used Memorex double layer. I have a Memorex DVD reader/writer. Recently the quality of Memorex became worst. From Made in Taiwan, it is now Made in India. Almost half the discs became coaster eventhough I was using a Memorex DVD Reader/writer. It was a lot cheaper so I always used Memorex double layer. But I got fed up with the quality of Memorex discs. As of today, there is not a single coaster in the Verbatim double layer.

Pros: Bit-perfect burns 99% of the time. Dual-layer. DVD-video burns when bitset to DVD-ROM on these discs will play back in almost any DVD player made.
Cons: Not the cheapest in absolute per-disc cost--but when you factor in the inevitable coaster factor of other brands, these are the best net value in DVD+R DL discs, even if you disregard the fact that other brands don't play as well on many DVD players.

The Verbatim 96542 is simply the best Double Layer media there is. It burns reliably at 8x on most burners and 10x on some. You will have fewer coasters with these then any other brand, which is a big deal on expensive DL disks. The order I received from B&H was the Singapore produced version of these disks, which is slightly better quality then the other version of them. The price is the best I have found.

THE MEDIA CODE REVIEWED ELSEWHERE STATES THE SAME AS I FEEL, IT IS AN EXCELLENT DISK. I HAVE WRITTEN DVD-ROM AT 10x TO THIS MEDIA W/O ANY PROBLEMS, USING NERO, AND IMGBURN. NEVER HAVE HAD A COASTER; I HAVE MADE A MISTAKE WHICH CAUSED A BURN PROBLEM. ALSO USED DVDFAB WITH EXCELLENT RESULTS. I HAVE BURNED OVER 700 DISKS; NO PROBLEMS. N/A GLAD THEY CAME OUT W/ 30 DISC CAKE BOXES (SPINDLES) OF THESE, I STARTED WITH 15's.

8.5gb DL. Verbatium Got 1 coaster out of this 30pack. Put it in dvd drive and Studio would not recognize it. Replaced disk and worked fine. I have burned about 150 movies on Verbatim 4.7gb disk with no problems. My quality on some was 68% indicating that I should have put them on bigger disk but movie was still viewable. When they got below 65% I knew we were going to have to go to DL disk. My wife does a lot of recording old clasic movies off of the TV channels and edit them with Studio 12.

Pros: Before obtaining these particular Verbatim 8.5GB DVD+R's (and, yes, they're from Singapore), I hadn't had a single coaster out of perhaps 100 burned. But those "good" Verbatims (also from Singapore) were packaged differently (10- and 20-packs).
Cons: I purchased 3 30-packs of these latest Verbatims, and out of the first 25 burned, I've had 7 coasters. I use ImgBurn, which is the best DVD-burning software there is, and I intentionally burn at less than the rated 8x speed (first I tried 4x, then I went down to 2.4x after three coasters). The failures were actually interesting: Although one of the 7 failed on the burn, but the other 6 failed on the post-burn test by ImgBurn (there were unrecoverable parity problems at the 50% point, +/1 2%). And, yes, these failures were real - I could play the DVD up to the problem area, at which point the media player hung.
I'm curious if anyone else has this issue.

Pros: -Got the ones Made in Singapore
-Can be written 10x or faster with compatible DVD writer drives
-Even though item name said it's OEM, it is retail packaging
-I've burned hundreds of Verbatim's DVD+R dual layer media, and never get a coaster
Cons: -Pricier than some other cheapo brands. (You get what you pay for)
-DL media is still much more expensive than single layer media.

Pros: Great media. If you're burning backups and need a high quality media this is your stop. If you're making LEGAL backups of games that you own or anything of the like don't even bother with anything else. Trust me I've got a nice set of coasters lying around the house. Frisbee anyone?
Cons: These are expensive, but if you're burning something that needs to last and needs to go into a burner that can be tempermental they are a neccessity.

Pros: The old Verbatims used to burn well at any speed you set them. With these newer ones you have to make sure you burn them (I use imgburn with layer break at 1913760) at there listed speed when "backing up" xbox360 games.
Cons: Like I said, make sure you set your burner software to burn at the discs rated speed and they should work fine.
