Description

The Dual View GCS1744 USB KVMP Switch brings dual head video functionality to IOGEAR's USB KVM switch technology. Now four dual-display computers can be accessed and controlled from a single console that consists of a USB keyboard, USB mouse, and two VGA, SVGA, or Multisync monitors. In addition, the GCS1744 allows the computers to share USB peripherals connected to the USB peripheral ports, such as printers, scanners, portable hard drivers, etc.

Recognizing the importance of sound, this switch is also audio-enabled. A single microphone can provide audio input to each of the computers, and you can enjoy the audio output of each computer on a single set of speakers.

Pros: It's a great little unit - I've got a Mac, a Vista box, and two Linux boxes set up on it, and it all works fine. Had a little problem with the ATI drivers on the Ubuntu box, but the Mac, the Vista box, and the NVidia drivers on the CentOS workstation handled it perfectly.
Being able to leave the sound on one box while you toggle to another is a really awesome feature - it means I can leave music playing while I'm doing the KVM shuffle.
Cons: Cables can be a bit short if you've got a spread-out workspace.
I couldn't find a DVI version of this - a lot of modern dual-head cards are DVI-only, and having to scare up enough adapters is annoying.

Pros: Great size. Good instructions. Integrated cables.
Cons: The USB leads on the integrated cable are too short. They should be the length of the cable itself instead of half that.
Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 was not recognized. Tech support agreed the keyboard wouldn't work even in the "custom" USB port.
    Returned switch.

Returned switch. There are no good, inexpensive 4 port switches. LinksKey is a better switch, even though it is more expensive

Pros: Worked perfectly. Hotkey computer switching works fast and flawlessly. I have used several other KVM switches which had problems in this area - either not always switching the first time you key in the hotkeys, or having serious lag time, but not this model. Picture quality is also good for both monitors.
    Cons: I haven't found any.

Pros: Dual Monitor support, Keyboard hotswitch, includes audio, and cables included. Cables are much more compact that my older system. This combines video, and audio, in one cable, and another cable for USB Keyboard, Mouse and other video. Last system had all cables separate.
Cons: Some compatibility issues with older machines using USB support for Keyboard and Mouse. Only support for 4 machines.

Some compatibility issues with older machines using USB support for Keyboard and Mouse. Only support for 4 machines. If you have relatively new machines, this works well. I had two machines that I was using as servers that were Dual 850 PIII, and after upgrading bios still wouldn't reliably connect. Not a hugh issue, but it was painful to replace the machines that were still serving a purpose.

Pros: Seems to work great so far, and they got great support. both before and after the purchase.
Cons: It seems to have a problem with holding many keys at once (7-8), EX: Playing bf2 and flying a helicopter with the keyboard. When it messes up you've gotta restart it by turning off all 4 comptuers and unpluging it....hopfully Ill figure out how to fix it soon enough though, ive only been trying to figure it out for a day or two
