    Pros: -Dual Band
    -Separate SSIDs for guests
-It's quick (when it's not restarting)
    -The setup wasn't too difficult.
-I actually liked the blue light. I guess because it wasn't in my bedroom... LOL
Cons: -It restarts quite frequently causing both my XP machine and my Macbook to drop. I suppose it overheats or whatever. Going to work at it some more and see if I can't make it play a wee bit nicer.
With this particular router you are pretty much getting your moneys worth. It's quite quick when its actually working properly. My particular piece of hardware likes to restart though due to what I'm guessing is overheating. I'm going to try to get more air to it but will probably end up going with Cisco/Linksys or DLink.

Pros: Easy Installation and good features, good price
    Cons: nothing
I purchased this to replace an old router that was becoming unstable. I found the installation simple using the supplied disk. The hardest part was figuring out just how the feet snap onto the case. Am using it to provide wireless internet to one desktop, two laptops and two "Nooks" scattered over a medium-sized two story frame house. Signal strength and net speed are excellent throughout and onto the patio, too.
Only problem has been a need to restart following a couple of power and isp drops.

Bought this to replace my wornout netgear router that I had had for the last 5 years. Easy setup(out of box to connected about 12 minutes) Signal strength is great in 2300 square foot home with 2 levels. What else can I say, it does what it is supposed to do. How excited can you get about a router
    April 21, 2011 GuyS says:
Pros: The WNDR3400 N600 Wireless Dual Band Router is a great little system for home use. It was easy to setup, from out of the box to a working wireless home network took about 15 min. and to connect or add the other laptops in my house was just as easy. It has a range that covers my entire house with little or no lag time and it has a pretty descent download speed.
Cons: So far, after using for 2 weeks, I haven't experienced any problems or issues yet.

    Pros: Works fine once setup
Cons: Needs better instructions for setup and what encrypition to use
I got the router all setup following the basic directions. Plug in, turn on. Put in the set up disk with the ethernet plugged into windows 7 laptop. Followed the setup and used the recommended encryption. All was well with my laptop connected wirelessly. All the wired computers worked fine. None of the other wireless computers worked correctly. A Vista laptop connected to the network ok, but not the internet. The XP laptop would not even connect to the network. I tried to change the encryption to none but then nothing worked.
I called tech support and got a nice Philipino named Ben. A little communication problem with a lot of "what did you say?". Spent an hour(61min) with him. The problem was the encryption. The "recommended" one was only good for windows 7. Had to change to WEP and add a new password. Then delete all the old connections in each laptop then reconnect, maybe a couple times.
    A lot of fun.
When setting up yours, use your oldest operating system.

We always had problems with our previous routers, but this one is WONDERFUL! We could even turn off the signal to my mean sister's computer when she was making us mad! ha! but seriously, my husband used it for online gaming (PS3, COD games) and loved it. I got to stream movies and tv shows while he was playing. Our other router never would let us do that. Love it!

This is the first router I ever set up and it was easy to set up. The set up instructions gave me a little trouble, but after I figured out what they ment it went well. Great range was out in backyard and the hook up was fast and the speed was a lot faster than I thought it would be.

I spent several hours researching routers. I am a MAC only user but was not sure if I should spend $180 for an airport extreme. I am not a tech person but i do appreciate quality things. I set this router using the install disc and it took 10 minutes. 9 minutes were installing firmware and and other misc downloads automatically. It was SUPER simple to set up. Its replacing an older $60 netgear - g router. Router is on the 3rd floor of my home and it work fine 30 feet from my front door. May have gone longer but there is no need.

    Pros: range
Cons: cheap stand, could not find anything else to say not good about.
signal rate is great, many options to solve just about any type of installation. range is great, especially if used with another netgear router as a base and repeater, covers my entire house, runs 11 wifi, and around 4 hard lines, not many can handle that kind of load, but a good isp speed would be helpful, i use around 16 down, 1.5 up. great product, its my 6th netgear router. the only other router i think comes close is apples 2 type routers to do the same setup, the extreme, and express.

    Pros: Great range/dual band
Cons: for the price, no complaints
By far the easiest router I've ever installed. I have an older brick home with concrete floors upstairs (yes upstairs) and down. The signal is strong throughout the house and covers most of the 1/2 acre lot. Dual signal design allowed me to use older components to link in additional computers and games systems on old wireless B connections as well as the N connections for my Bluray and new systems. I was also able to set up a seperate guest account on the slower network...now my friends with Ipads can access the internet without compromising my network.
    March 23, 2011 RobDavo says:
    Pros: Price and wifi coverage
Cons: Doesn't play nice with iPads
While the router was definitely easy to install and set up, it might take a user with more knowledge of wireless networks to effectively manage the wireless network settings needed to obtain a secure wifi network. Also, for whatever reason, our iPad constantly drops connection with this (and other) routers. While it might not necessarily be indicative of a flaw with this Netgear router, iPad users might wish to be aware of this. Aside from the iPad issue, none of the PC computers have any issues with this router.

    Cons: none
More complicated than cheaper models due to all of the advanced features that most won't use anyway, especially if they are just looking for an easy wireless router. I've been through a few Linksys routers, so I wanted to try Netgear this time around. Currently using it's wireless routing capabilities on 1 pc, 2 laptops, 2 smartphones, and a PS3. Just sampled this product along with the N600 USB adapter. I have moved out of my house and into my sisters house temporarily. I've always had a direct ethernet connection for my gaming. My sisters uverse router is to far from my temp. bedroom to run ethernet across the house and 802.11g didn't cut it when I tried to play Battlefield:BC2 last night...it was laggy as heck. Her upload/downloads are pretty good and knew it was the wireless connection. Hooked this Wireless N router up (behind the uverse router)specific for gaming along with the adapter mentioned...as these two were the cheapest I could find that claimed good enough for gaming. Just got off BC2 for two hours and didn't experience any lag at all. It also actually improved my ping slightly as well too. If you need an affordable wireless router for your PC gaming or console, give these two a try.

I had a horrible experience with a Linksys not to long ago and was never going back. I did some research and found this bad boy. The dual band gives you a fast connection for both devices I have hooked up to it and seamless access to new devices. All I had to do was update some firmware, name the router and set a password and I was in business. I loved it since I was so afraid of routers because of my last one. Great product and great price. Highly recommend this one.

Pros: Price and ease of use and set up.
Cons: push and connect did not work for printer
I had this router up and running in no time and had all my laptops, XBox and printer networked in within an hour. There was a little problem with the printer set up through the push and connect feature, but I just used the ethernet cable and it then set up right away. I have not noticed any dead spots and it is keeping up with my computer and printing needs. I did hook up the XBox with an ethernet cable so the gaming would not have the wireless delay, but that is why there are the ethernet ports in the rear of the router.
    March 9, 2011 Niceperson says:
    Pros: Price per performance
    Cons: Installation
What I found out was that the laptop used to install the wireless aspect of the router, needed to be re-set up once the rest of the house was wireless. In short, what ever computer you use to set the router up, you need to call into the customer service dept of NetGear to walk you through the steps to make that computer wireless. It was not intuitive at all! I should have paid a couple more dollars for the router that just needs one button pushed to set up. I am not a complete idiot when it comes to installations, however I was blown away with the effort needed to finally be able to use ALL computers wirelessly.

    Pros: NO over heating issues
Cons: Could be a little bit cheaper
I have always been a fan of Cisco, but just recently I got tired of constant drops and overheating issues from the router that I had. I was told by a friend to try the Netgear router that I purchased and it was night and day for me. It doesn't overheat, it hasn't dropped me since I have purchased it about a month ago, haven't even turned it off, and has a cool blue light to it as well. So if you the same issues I have had with other routers than I would suggest to try this one, you won't be dissapointed.
    February 23, 2011 Kev19 says:
    Pros: Performance
    Cons: Annoying Blue LED
So far, this router is performing as advertised. I have a wireless G and a wireless N client connecting through this router and neither have experience range issues or access issues. Performance is outstanding. I also run xbox live through the router, which hasn't been an issue.
My old router needed to have a power cycle almost daily to get it connected to the internet, and I used to have my computer assigned a static ip just to access the router; so this new router has really made things easier for me.
My one problem is the bright, blue light that shines from the click-to-connect button at all times. I would prefer a device that won't light up a room by itself, but it is a minor issue compared to the other benefits.

This is the fastest router I've ever owned. Setup was pretty easy, CD walked me through how to set it up on my own. There were two passwords that had to be setup and then once I was trying to get my laptop connected it wasn't clear which password was to be used. Thankfully there were only two options.... Other than that I definatley recommend this router.

We had another brand and movies were slow to load and stopped to reload all the time. We got the 600 without gigabytes and it helped, but not enough. We got this model with the gigabytes and it increased our reception 20% - 40% depending on the location giving us 100% in some locations. Really great when you download computer programs. Would say it great and spend a little extra and get what you really want in speed

Does extremely well with the dual Wi-Fi at different Hz also, and has ability to have different security for each Wi-Fi connection as well.
If you are looking for a low budget piece, this is the best one to go with, regardless of what you have currently as it definitely will hold its own for awhile, I go thru Gigabytes of data on multiple machines and it does its job effortlessly.

We have two desktops, two laptops, an Ipad, an Iphone, a torch, three Tivos, and blu ray player, and a Wii hooked up with no issues.
Cons: The UI for settings is not as good as Linksys. I have owned Linksys routers since they became available and I prefer that interface. The Netgear interface takes some digging and is not as intuitive. The blue light on the top is just nuts, you can shut it off, see the manual.

Cons: Does not appear to work with XP
Most of my machines are still XP. I started the installation with an XP laptop and after several hours of changing settings, reading FAQs, etc. I gave up and called Netgear support. After 4 calls and a couple of hours I got through. The support person reviewed my setup and when we were about to hit enter, she mentioned if my call were dropped that there would be no need to call again, she would call me. I was suspicious since she had done nothing in the setup that I had not done without success. She told me to hit enter, then the phone line went dead .... Obviously nobody ever called back. Just goes to show there is more than one way to fix a software bug :-) After more time I just plugged it into my old wireless router and transmitted to my XP machines on the old one, and the Vista machines on the new router. By the way installation was flawless with Vista machines and the signal is strong.

I was having to reset my network once a week to clear the cache on the previous modem. I never understood why, but that's what Linksys and Comcast recommended. Pros: This router runs perfect with my Extreme 50/10 internet from Comcast (recently upgraded to 50/20.) I have multiple devices that easily connected to it after I went through the setup, which I was not impressed with (see cons.) The router is stylish, way better than my old router I used to have with DSL. I'm a hardcore gamer, as is my brother, therefore we needed something that could handle 2 to 3 concurrent connections.
The router handles the bandwidth perfectly. Both of us were playing and it was if I were still directly connected to my modem. He even had a download running at 1.5 MB/s and my ping was untouched while surfing the web and on Youtube (which uses upload.)
If you're having problems with simultaneous gaming or mutlitasking on the router, you either have a defective router, or you just can't accept the fact you don't know how to set up things and would rather blame the equipment for your own stupidity.
Cons: The LED light, but it's a small con that can easily be adjusted if you "read" the manual. Again, if you don't like to read, and you like to complain about things, well, that's your own fault.
The setup was a hassle. I wanted to go through the setup to set up an encryption key since my neighbors like stealing internet. I decided I'd let it download the software update. That was a mistake. It caused the setup to crash numerous times before it magically worked. When I went through the setup again, the setup would kick my router offline and then say there

This router is great for streaming and gaming. Keep in mind though, you may need to change the default "channel" that it sets itself up on. Because of the strength of the router, it's area usually surpasses your neighbors and you'll probably get knocked offline. If that happens, change the channel anything that it's not currently on (i changed mine to 6) and it hasn't dropped me once! Great hassle-free purchase!

Great value for the cost. My only complaint is that I'm using this (along with wirelessly connecting a couple laptops) to connect a few flat screen TVs upstairs for the purpose of streaming music and video, and even though there is only no more than a physical distance of 12 feet separating the router from one of the TVs, I don't get full signal strength at the TV. So far this hasn't made for any negative impact, but I guess I expected better in terms of signal. Maybe this house is built better than I thought...

We replaced our 4 year old wireless-G router with this one and it has been a breakthrough in speed and reliability. I routinely connect at 300 Mbps compared with 54 Mbps with the old router. In addition, the connection has never dropped. I also like the USB port to connect our external hard-drive to our network. I highly recommend replacing your older Wireless-G router with this one. My only feedback to Netgear is that bright blue connection light doesn't need to be as big and bright - it can be distracting.

This item was recommended to me by a co-worker who fixes computers for company. It was more than I wanted to spend but came highly recommended. I had trouble installing disc and connecting wires. This was my first laptop and using a wireless router. But, I am not a computer geek either. So far so good. I had to reconnect to internet couple times when using it in basement.

My previous router was 7-8 years old and dying and I really didn't know what I was missing out on until I got this one. It is SO much faster overall. I easily stream video from the internet now, anywhere in my 2-story house.
It was easy to set up, gave me some great options, and the security is great too.

The LED lights are extremely annoying, but nothing that a little electrical tape can't correct. Performance is fair, although the PS3 occasionally loses connection. I recently replaced a router due to increasing disconnects and so far have no issues with this product. i have a PC and Vonage modem connected to two of the LAN ports (and use QOS for Vonage and I've had no problems thus far). Also run multiple wireless devices (laptops, iMac, iPod, Android phone, Wii, Directv) with either G or N. I really like the traffic monitor feature that allows you to monitor the GB of data used on a monthly basis (since ISPs are starting to gage your usage) and we download movies through Directv or Amazon VOD.
The interface is easy to use and understand. Better than others I've had in the past. After many router purchases, the phrase you get what you pay for I think applies well here.
It did extend the range for my wireless G devices in my house. And for those who can't figure it out - you can turn off the lighted dome by tapping it once.

I bought this router to replace a Wireless G router, and I have only one complaint...It takes some reading, research, and trial and error to get to know all it can do and how to set things through the Web-Based settings adjuster...Other than this, the router has worked flawlessly, giving me lightning Wireless connections across multiple platforms (LINUX, MAC, PC, Wii, PS3, XBOX360)...I have only had to reset it once, and that was my own error...I would highly recommend this router to others...Also, the range is outstanding with my furthest machine being about 40 feet away and one floor below the router...Most routers fail to perform at the 5GHz level, but not the Netgear WNDR3400...

I wanted a dual band N router that could provide full bandwidth to my Roku for watching movies on the TV and still get full bandwidth on my PCs. The Netgear router was the solution. It was under $100, set up was easy and provides great performance - 300MB. As long as it has a long life I'll be a happy camper. Netgear is my choice for routers. I had previously had DSL and a Netgear router/modem. The DSL signal was so poor the speed was no better then dial-up. All the techs that were sent out by AT&T said that the speed problems were on their side. So dumped DSL and went with cable for the internet. We have 4 desktops 2 that are connected by wireless, 2 Samsung bluray players connected by wireless, and a Xbox 360 also wireless, and several laptops with the computers on and the Xbox on, we were are able to download Netflix movies to the bluray players and never experience any stuttering of the movies when being played at all. Netgear has never let me down yet.

I picked this router up tonight and it appears to be a little "jumpy". I am in the same room as the router on a Macbook Pro and websites are a little hesitant. My son is running his PS3 and he said the same thing. Previously I had a Buffalo G and wanted to take advantage of the N+ technology I am paying for through Comcast. I am going to try a few more settings tomorrow and if I can not get this thing to work better, it is going back to the store.
