Pros: Nice lights in front that let you know which computer you are using and that they are connected. Push button on right with a micro switch feel and the lights change to let you it switched over.
Cons: Light box with lots of stiff heavy cables coming out the back... some double sided tape in the box to anchor it to a surface would have been nice.

From the picture I thought the two lights on the left were going to be the old style mechanical buttons. Pleasantly surprised. Unit is nicer than I thought it was going to be.

Pros: Sturdy construction, simple operation, responsive. I use it to switch keyboard/mouse and monitor between my work laptop and my home desktop.
Cons: No points for style and even though it seems sturdy it tends to slightly move on my desk when I push the select button (unless I don't hold it down).

No points for style and even though it seems sturdy it tends to slightly move on my desk when I push the select button (unless I don't hold it down). Some people complained that the cables are a bit short, but they seemed perfect for my desk. Had to use a PS/2 to USB for my mouse.

Pros: The KVM works, but we expect that.
Cons: My main complaint is that I cannot use the keyboard to switch beween 1 an 2. With the StarTech 4-pot KVM I use ctl-ctl-n where n is 1,2,3,or 4. With this 2-port I have to press the button on the box maning the box has to be close to my keyboard rather than out of sight.

Pros: The KVM can be set up in a mere matter of minutes. Just hook it up with a keyboard, monitor and mouse of your choice. With the push of a button, you can easily switch between your two machines. The switching is fast so you can hop back and forth between the two machines with little delay.
The KVM switch weighs about 14 ounces, so it sits where you put it. Rubber feet are included that you can install if you want, so the switch won't slide on or scratch your desk surface.
You get two combined video/USB cables that are generous in length; your two computers could be as much as 12 feet apart!
The KVM has THREE USB type A connectors so you can hook up a third component. I tested it with a USB flash drive and it worked great.
Cons: I can't really call this a con, because it's just the way USB works...when you switch machines, you may notice Windows playing the disconnect sound. This is because Windows actually "disconnects" the USB device. Not a big deal at all, but something to bear in mind. Might be more of an issue with sharing something like a disk/flash drive; you could corrupt it if you switch while a data transfer is underway.

Pros: Works well, just plug cables and change your PCs BIOS configurations to "Alt on error but keyboard" and you are ready to go. It is a small heavy components with rubber feet so it stays where you place it. Extra USB port to share a USB component.
Cons: The Windows sounds that is heard when the USB component is dectected by Windows can be silent by Running "mmsys.cpl" or go to Windows "Sounds Audio Devices" and select the "Sound" tab and select "None" (no sound) for the "Program events" "Device Connect" and "Device Disconnect" on all PCs.

I use it for a PC and Laptop so the Laptop screen output need to be selected accordingly so the video signal is sent to the laptop remote display.

Pros: Price is low relative to most other USB kvms.
Cons: There is a longer lag after switching video to register keyboard/mouse activity than I expected. The kvm (with Windows XP Pro) can change the display resolution after switching a couple times when using an uncommon video resolution (specifically 1440x900). What's worse (MS' fault, not StarTech) is that depending on drivers, Windows XP Pro may stop listing 1440x900 as an available resolution setting after this happens.

We purchased this unit to test with USB keyboards with integrated SmartCard readers. The unit works great with any peripheral we tried. The only issue we had is more of a Window 2000 issue. When you switch away from a W2K machine and then back to it, you always get the infamous quot;Unsafe Removal of Device quot; dialog box. Not sure if you d ever experience data corruption on a USB hard drive or flash drive, but I would think that it s possible. NICE SMALL FOOTPRINT. No issues otherwise.

Pros: I have a wireless keyboard mouse combo (one usb connector) and I had some trouble with other switches; this one works great. The delay is usually about 1-2 seconds.
Cons: I think it actually unplugs the usb from one pc and plugs it into another; you can hear windows detecting the new input device. This works for me, others might not like this. No keyboard quick key, but I was fine with this.

Pros: easy to use, doesn't take up much room on the desk, no freezes or bugginess. Works well with 2 macs, g4 cube and G4 sawtooth model. Solid performer.

Solid performer. as tad slow, but nothing that noticeable. before this, we used a different KVM switch, it gave us nothing but trouble, freezes, stubborn behaviour. I didn't like the hotkey switching, either. I finally couldn't get it to work at all, so I bought the Startech. It does it's job without any problems, easy to switch between computers. My boss loves it. Thank you, Startech.

Pros: Works great for what I got it for - switching between 2 PC's sharing the same VGA monitor, USB mouse and keyboard. The 2 or 5 second wait to use the keyboard or mouse after switching is no big deal. The device is small, doesn't take up much space. Comes with cables.
Cons: It's small size could be a con to some, not me though.
Cables could be a bit longer.

I ve used this product since January 2006, and it has worked reliably switching between my Power Mac G5 using OS 10.4.7 and my old PowerCenter computer that uses a USB card and OS 9.2.2. I tried similar products from IO Gear and D-Link, but the StarView is the only one that has worked. I believe that the reason it works, in part, is because it uses a separate power source instead of the USB connection. This product worked from moment I set it up. As it stated in the manual, there is a momentary pause in system responsiveness upon switching. It pauses for about 10 seconds when I switch to the PowerCenter and for a second or two when I switch to the G5. Highly Reccomended.
