  • March 16, 2010 Fotographique says:
There are times when this comes in really handy, but the remote really needs to be aimed pretty precisely at the camera's sensor in order for it to trigger. Oftentimes you press, and press, and press, and press, until you get the right angle.
    March 15, 2010 Ghawas says:
I used to wait for 10 sec for a self family photograph. No its just a click away on my will as soon as we are ready for the photograph.
    March 13, 2010 Bully says:
This controller works well but has distance limitations. If you don't need long distance control, this is the product you are looking for.
    March 4, 2010 f-Stop21 says:
I was a bit worried about the line of site for this device. I wanted to use the RC-1 for night shoots and I would be behind the camera mainly. Though the RC-1 works from above and by the side at close range, which works for me. The auto focus can be slow for self-portrait shots but I don't plan on using it for this purpose so I am fine with it.
March 2, 2010 buffalo ridge shutte says:
I wanted it in order to take a self portrait and it worked great versus using the timer on the camera which I had done before.
    February 26, 2010 jimboxz says:
The reason why I wanted one of these was to make the taking of self-portraits easier. SOME TIMEz U need one of u to. hihihi!! Other reviews I read didn't give details of how the remote works with auto-focusing but I ordered one anyway and can now confirm that:- the shutter release on the remote is not the same as on the camera i.e. it's just a single-click rather than press halfway to focus then fully depress to take the shot. However, if you leave the lens set on Autofocus, and press the remote, the camera does autofocus then take the shot. This is important because I don't think the camera will focus again before taking a shot if you just use the camera's self-timer. Also, if you've got something like an f1.4 lens and want your eyes to be the only things in focus, you could set the lens on manual focus, keep moving closer and further from the camera and keep taking snaps until you get a winner. In the time it takes to wait for the camera's self-timer to countdown to take one shot, you could probably take 20 shots with the remote control.
February 24, 2010 The General says:
Secures neatly to the neck strap with integrated clip. It's just about the size of a AA battery. It works right out of the box.
    February 24, 2010 HankyP says:
Simple and easy to use. Requires Line of Sight to the front of the camera (Canon XSi), but good to about 15 feet. I've used it for quite a few bulb shots in the dead of night with no problems
    February 21, 2010 shooter says:
great remote if you want to be in the pics. for night shots or long exposures where u just dont want camera shake, get the corded remote.
    February 17, 2010 june_eagle says:
Family Portaits and Macro Work, Bad thing is you have to be in front of the camera.
    February 16, 2010 Jconnection. says:
As in all things Canon, the RC-1 infrared shutter release works perfectly. My only complaint is the clip that is used to store it on my camera strap. It is a real chore to get it to latch in place. It's installed properly but the thickness of the strap (genuine Rebel T1i) keeps it from latching without a fight. The designers missed the mark on this one.
February 16, 2010 Mommy of two says:
Once I figured out how to turn on the remote function on the camera itself, (I didn't realize it was the same as the timer function), all I had to do was point this at the camera and click away. So easy. So much better than using the timer function! I love it.
    February 16, 2010 Ian says:
This is a great, simple little addition to the essential equipment list. Holder attaches to the camera strap for convenience. Free yourself from the cables, or having to open up the rubber covers to attach. Fast and easy to use.
February 15, 2010 Meier Street Product says:
This product really comes in handy when you need cut down on camera shake. I have had to complete multiple assignments dealing with different lighting situation, including low light. Using this remote really helped to capture a clear image when in those low light instances.
    February 10, 2010 PlatinumCloud says:
This little guy is so slick! You maybe asking yourself why would i get a remote unless i was shooting myself? there is more than that reason for getting this. If you use a tripod or shoot in low light you MUST have this. the reason is simple: when you trigger the shutter by hand you could cause camera shake! But not with this little guy! its only 2 long and about 3/4 wide it can clip on to your camera strap to go anywhere with you as well. i liked this remote over the other one because of the optional 2 second delay it has. pretty simple to operate and it comes with batteries so no need to worry there. pretty much if you do any tripod work by this remote or a remote to save your self some hassel
    February 8, 2010 gui says:
    Excellent device.
    February 8, 2010 Sluquet says:
Works just as described, nothing more, nothing less.
    February 5, 2010 Tweet says:
This is great for testing out new lighting ideas. I found myself having to switch the drive to 10sec timer all the time, but now that I have this I can stay in front of the camera. Could also be good for candid and kids as well. Great fun for the price. Also it should be noted that it stores on your neckstrap!
February 4, 2010 Old guy says:
It's small attaches to camera strap but plastic so hope it holds up.
    February 4, 2010 BlueHousePhotos says:
Works just as I hoped, and love the holder for teh camera strap. Perfect.
    January 31, 2010 Gerg says:
It DOES work as a remote, but its a bit picky. You need to have a clear shot of the IR receiver, which means you need to be in front of the camera. It would be nice if it worked from behind it as well, but overall its not bad. It's incredibly small, which is nice since its meant to be put on the shoulder strap.
January 28, 2010 Mindi Sue says:
I had one of these remotes and used it for taking shots of products I make and sell on a handmade website. Some of which are hats that I need to be wearing in some pictures. This remote is perfect for the job. I actually lost it, and didn't realize how useful it was until it was gone! So i bought another. For [$] i say it was well worth it.
    January 28, 2010 Bruce says:
    Nothing fancy... it just works.
January 14, 2010 King Todd says:
Yeah, I tried to press the remote while I sit in front of the camera. Suddenly, the camera clicked at me. I saw myself in the monitor and I didn't see my remote controller in my hand. Cool! Also, it was dark indoor and the picture was sharp because of no shaking.
    January 12, 2010 Dennis says:
    Works great for remote control
    December 29, 2009 RJOET says:
Does just what it is supposed to do and that is to remotely release the shutter. I never seem to get into any vacation pics but with this, I will be there!
    December 29, 2009 Cyclone says:
Works like it should. It's reliable, has good range, and the option of firing right away or with a slight delay comes in handy. You do need line of sight (aimed at the front of the camera), however, to make it work.
    December 28, 2009 JB says:
I have always wanted to be able to be in the family pictures, but hated using the timer feature or cable (for the film SLR) before. The remote for my digital Cannon is great. It allows me to be in the picture or do the low light pictures I wasn't able to do before.
    December 28, 2009 dexterstyles says:
Small and easy to use. Perfect to get you from behind the camera and be in the family shot. Also great for macro work.
    December 26, 2009 MAT' says:
Awesome. This access need to be in all bag photography...
    December 26, 2009 Tara T. says:
Purchased this to take family photos where I am included in the shot. Seems to do the job fine but I haven't used it much yet.
    December 14, 2009 Jarek says:
minimize vibration for close-ups and time exposure
December 13, 2009 AM Lanier says:
This remote works just as described. I will use it often.
    December 9, 2009 EricLee says:
Simply perfect. Securely attaches to your camera strap via a clip in mount so it's always with you. Small enough to hide in the palm of your hand in self portraits. Easy to use even in the dark... only two buttons. The only down side is that you must have line of site to the sensor of your camera (to the left of the lens when facing the camera on my T1i) so if you have a big lens or other wise can't see the sensor on your camera you can't take the shot. Fortunately the remote has a take the shot in 2 seconds mode which will allow you to get into line of site for the sensor and then be where you need to be before the shot is taken. Great for long exposures to avoid the shake of releasing the shutter button.
December 6, 2009 Photography Mike says:
This is a great concept but I haven't found it practical in actual use. Why didn't Canon put an infrared sensor on the back of the camera? It's fun to take photos of yourself with this thing but that's about all I've found it good for.
    December 6, 2009 Canadian J says:
This remote is ready to use straight out of the box. It's discrete and conveniently locks onto the camera strap for portablility. While the range of it's beam is decent, it does require almost 'line of sight' with the receiver in order to work properly.
December 1, 2009 Canon Shooter says:
Can't go wrong with this one. Extremely easy to use and durable
    December 1, 2009 Starbuck says:
This controller is useful for taking pictures of yourself and others. Just point it at the front of the camera and shoot. The controller can be set to shoot immediately or wait 2 seconds first. It works quite well, but you must point it at the sensor in the front of the camera. Overall, a nice little device.
    November 19, 2009 Johny says:
    nice, small, useful
November 10, 2009 shuttered up says:
This product is good for exactly what it is meant to do. If you want to take pictures without being there to press the button, this remote will do the trick. Also, if you slow down the shutter speed to take nighttime shots, and just pressing the shutter button is causing your photos to come out blurred, you can use this and limit the movement of your camera even more.
    October 12, 2009 Sikor7 says:
I have had this remote for about 15 years and used to use it with an Elan II. It hasn't gotten much use since I bought the 20D and subsequently, the 40D, neither of which are compatible with this remote. After reading a bunch of these reviews it had me wondering if the camera would AF when using the remote (self timer on the 40D will not) and about how far the range is indoors. The answer is yes, it will AF before taking the shot with the remote and I just fired a shot with the old and collecting dust, Elan II from 30' away! BTW, in that 15 years I have never replaced the batteries in the remote. I wonder how far it will trigger with a fresh set of batteries! Definetaly worth the money! I can't wait to get the 7D so I can put this little gem back to work!
    September 10, 2009 Kara says:
I frequently photograph pets and small children. I love using this remote as it allowes me to be able to move in close, interact with my subject, get their minds on me and off the camera and snap those candid shots at will. I have also used this in macro photography, being able to set my subject up and then stand near the subject, holding a desired background and still being able to snap the photo. Having the remote is like having a third arm and a kid wrangler! I no longer have to worry about camera shake nor do I have to worry about 'beating that self-timer' to get in position.
    September 2, 2009 wmphotos says:
I am using the remote for self portraits and some marketing video with the Canon 5Dmk2. Working like a charm to fire the camera and when in live view it start and stops the video recording. Defiantly worth the price.
    August 12, 2009 Sio says:
Tripod plus mirror lock up plus this remote control is all what you need to get perfect sharp images. This tiny RC has a switch where you can set up the following options: i) disable (to prevent accidentaly shots) ii)2 seconds delay (ideally when you want to be in the picture otherwise you will appera with your arm pointing the camera...) iii)inmediate shot.
    August 11, 2009 Scopes says:
This works as expected! My big complaint is that it should be included with the camera rather than an add-on.
    July 30, 2009 DCW says:
I use the controller to take family pictures...I am always behind the camera, so it is nice to take some pictures and me and my daughter.
July 29, 2009 Jack the Prof says:
After learning how to use it I felt it met my need to take extended family group shots while being in the photo instead of running to get in them. It had a longer range then specified.
    July 29, 2009 J Bowers says:
This product does exactly what it claims to do. The only reason I did not give it the highest rating is because Canon needs to put an additional sensor in the back of the camera. It works great as long as you are standing in front of or beside the camera. I do a lot of long exposures of waterfalls and I also shoot a lot of macro pictures. Both require you to be behind the camera a good share of the time. The engineers at Canon should rethink this one. The only design flaw here is actualy in the camera body not having a rear sensor. Add a rear sensor and this would be an almost perfect product.
    July 16, 2009 katsucurry says:
I use this when I want to take a shot on my tripod so the camera does not shake. Of course I can use it to take a group photo or something like that so I can be in the photo myself! The design the size could be better in my opinion but it works great! If the IR range/angle was better, it would be 5 stars!
    July 15, 2009 Jen says:
I was surprised by the size. I love how small it is. You can place it anywhere so it's always accessable and it's never in the way. Works as promised.
July 8, 2009 the nino says:
I bought this mainly as a remote to shoot fireworks with first and some self portraiture secondly. It works great for fireworks as i'm standing right behind the camera when shooting. You do have to have the remote in front of the camera for it to see the infrared signal. The only downside is the range is limited from what I can tell to be about 15 feet. The other potential problem could be from your lens blocking the line of sight of the remote. But the product does exactly what it claims to do and works well.
    July 7, 2009 Kevin says:
I have used this for multiple family portraits and group shots. I set up the camera and then take the picture when the group is ready. It is also useful for self-portraits (just use the 2 second timer). I keep it clipped to my camera strap and it is always there.
July 6, 2009 Chris King says:
Before I bought my 20D I had one of these with my Digital Rebel. The 20D did not work with the wireless remotes so I sold it with the camera but now my new 5DM2 is wireless friendly and with the added sensor size and resolution this remote control is an absolute MUST HAVE accessory. It comes with batteries installed and attached to your neck strap for easy access. It is so simple to use it will become an immediate best friend to your photo bag. I love it! And it's such a low cost accessory there is no reason not to have one!
    July 1, 2009 Ferlon says:
Does what it's suppose to do! Glad I got this over the rc-5.
    July 1, 2009 Lev says:
    Easy to use.
    July 1, 2009 Steveo says:
    Worked great for slow shots
    June 30, 2009 Dave says:
This is a great tool for the amateur and semi-pro. Depending on your camera you need to make sure you point it at the side of the lens where the ir receiver is located (on my T1i it is on the right hand side of the camera. Some great settings for both instant and time-delayed
    June 30, 2009 Tom R says:
Works as expected !! It's infrared like the TV remote control so if something is blocking the line of sight from the RC-1 remote to the receiving sensor on the camera, it may not fire. Once you realize this and act accordingly, it works great!! You press the button on the RC-1 , the camera auto-focuses and takes the shot. A nice little accessory for a little money.
June 25, 2009 Big John says:
Great for removing shake from long exposures when the camera is on a tripod. Being able to pop it on and off of the camera strap keeps it handy, and helps avoid loosing it in the bottom of a bag. And the wife and I love it on our trips. Now we can take pictures together without having to find a third or wait for the timer to count down. The two second delay option gives me a chance to put my hand down, so I don't get pictures of me clicking the button at the camera. Great little device.
    May 17, 2009 Zac c says:
macro , landscape , night sky portraits
    April 27, 2009 Geoff6 says:
Easy to use. The ability to attach to camera strap adds to its utility
    April 19, 2009 John says:
Was surprised there were no instructions with the remote. Like a small piece of paper saying something like... Hey you. You're not going to find operating instructions here. Go read your Canon manual.
    April 8, 2009 Ashton says:
Infrared remote works by line of sight, as advertised. It's small and light, so never a reason not to bring it. You must be in front of the camera, and have a direct line to the infrared sensor, which means you may have to move slightly to be in front of the camera and to reach around the lens mounted on the camera.
March 17, 2009 Photoshop Junkie says:
I actually am working on self portraits since being the photog I am seldom in the pix. This remote works great.
    March 5, 2009 Lisa says:
    child portraits, self portrait
    February 23, 2009 ianatmorris says:
I had read the warnings before I bought this remote that it was a little difficult to be seen by the camera and this is true. As an alternative to remote wire operation when the camera is on a stand it risks gettiong your hands in the photo as you try to operate the remote because it has to be in front of the camera. The jury is still out until I have had more experience with this remote.
    February 22, 2009 Spike says:
Work well with my 5D MK II. No more push button and run!
February 16, 2009 Ricardo Silva says:
I use it to take pictures from myself with my family. It is a good choice to have two shot options (2 sec delay or immediate shot). I also use it to take pictures without camera shaking. The bad thing is as it works with infrared, it must be in front of the camera (or in a good angle) to work properly. Maybe radio signal would be better to this kind of remote control.
    January 23, 2009 Wayne says:
This is a great infrared remote. I had it on my 300D (Digital Rebel), and sorely missed it on the 30D. Now the new 5D Mark II supports it, so I bought my second one. It even comes with batteries installed. Put it on your shoulder strap, and you ll always have it handy. Not only it s a great convenience, it s also a must have if you need exposure longer than 30 seconds (which you do for many night shots). I only wish it doesn t rattle but it s no big deal.
January 5, 2009 WL Photography says:
I wanted to use the RC for family portraits that I am in, as well as long exposure photography to cut down on shake when hitting the shutter. It works well enough, but it must be in a direct line of sight with the sensor, and since the sensor is recessed between the handgrip and the lens, you must be almost exactly in front of the camera to use it.
    December 27, 2008 photomom says:
This remote couldn't be easier to use!
    December 22, 2008 Sandhill08 says:
It is nice to have this unit to lessen the camera movement but locating the infrared sensor on the camera results in having to push the button several times before the camera takes the image. On a cold day you tend to lose your patience.
    December 14, 2008 Wargy says:
I have only used it once, but it sure is nice to use, so the tripod doesn't shake or move.
December 11, 2008 DSLR newbie says:
This is awesome for group pictures, etc. This Thankgiving, my sister in law was running to get in the pic with her camera, but not me... I have recomended this to my friends with Canon Rebels. I love the instant and 2 second delay option.
    November 25, 2008 Richardo says:
After receiving this remote I used it for an extreme close-up shot. Using the remote I was able to do so having perfect focus on the subject. You don't need to be a pro to use this product.
    November 21, 2008 rudyumans says:
Nice little gadget. the 2 second delay option comes in handy to avoid camera shake Problem is that you have to point the device to the front of the camera. Standing behind the camera, it will not work unless you move your hand to the front. Meaning, you have to be close to the camera. Ultrasound instead of infrared would have been better I guess.
    October 18, 2008 Joe says:
I use the remote mainly for low light and telescope shots. Easy to use attaches to camera strap, glad I paid the extra couple of dollars to get the RC-1. It's size make it easy to misplace.
    October 17, 2008 Dillon says:
I bought this remote so that I could get more clarity in my photos, and it works well. I have not had any problems with this product whatsoever, and consider it to be well worth the money spent
    October 16, 2008 Erik says:
Good remote. Features a lock, zero delay and 2 second delay. I didn't read this tip in any manual, so in case you are trying to use the remote with the mirror lockup, you need to have it in the 2 second delay, and just push it once. It will immediately lockup the mirror, then in 2 seconds, without any other input, will open the shutter and make the exposure. That was a bit unclear, but works well. Wish I could trigger from behind the camera, and from a bit further away (3m?). But it's a great remote for the $$.
    October 8, 2008 Becahlou says:
This is a lovely little device with really no learning curve. It really is just as easy as point and click. Well worth the money.
    October 5, 2008 Tal says:
Nice to have remote control when shooting self-portrets, night shots (for avoid shake) or bulb. Some time does't function because of distance or wrong angle, but for general purpose use - it do the job.
    October 3, 2008 flashjedi says:
2 seconds shoot and single shoot is so usefull, just i didnt like when your camera sleeps, it doesnt wakes with shoot..
    October 2, 2008 Hearttech says:
This is my first experience with a remote and it has been great.
    October 1, 2008 jdqh1280 says:
My only complaint would be about the range of this product. And that is a small complaint, because as long as you stay withing the given restrictions, it works wonderfully.
    September 17, 2008 Brandie says:
I like it because its small. The instructions arent too clear though.
    September 10, 2008 DACOSI says:
This remote works great, but has a few draw backs which I already knew about. With my Canon XSI, I must use the remote in front of the camera, won't work from the rear. Also range does not seem far enough. Other than that this remote works great and has two settings.
September 3, 2008 The Chronicler says:
Since my wife died last year I have to do things by myself that we once did together. The remote unit allows me to hold reflectors and backgrounds for close-ups. It also allows me to place a person, myself, in some of the photo's that I take.
    August 28, 2008 Cameragirl75 says:
This remote is WONDERFUL! It's lightweight, easy to use, it can be clipped to your camera strap and it SHOULD be a part of your accessories.
August 27, 2008 CEO shutterbug says:
It is a great aid when photographing children, because they don't know you are taking a picture and they act naturally. It's also great for macro-photography and self portraits. You are not limited by a short cable.
    August 20, 2008 Jim says:
I use this product when I want pictures of the birds at my bird feeder. It allows me to set up my shot and wait for the wonderful colorful finches to show up. I am well hidden to use the remote to capture the picture I am looking for.
    August 4, 2008 ATPhotography says:
I use this remote to take pictures of me, my daughter, and my husband together. It makes group shots easy. The 2-second delay timer is what I use most. This gives you the chance to be in the picture. You have time to pose, press remote button, and hide the remote out of sight! Great pictures and a lot of fun to use!
    July 31, 2008 Maralahal says:
This was a good purchase. It was inexpensive and allows remote control functions. I can take pictures without having to either run to be in the picture myself or without causing the camera to shake when I am take a landscape shot. Good product!
    July 22, 2008 Pat M. says:
Simple to operate, makes it easy to get into some of your own pictures. Eliminates camera shake on longer exposures.
    July 9, 2008 Todd says:
teriffic wireless remote for my new Canon Xsi - light, small, attaches to strap. great price!
    July 3, 2008 happyhower says:
Easy to use and a no brainer. Only downfall is that it has to remote off the front of the camera.
    June 27, 2008 NoodlZ says:
It does exactly what its supposed to do. Really helpful if you have problems with shaking. combine the remote with a mirror up function and a tripod and it eliminates most any problems. (heavy wind, shaky hands...)
    June 26, 2008 Stealthy says:
Great if your taking a family photo and your in front of the camera. Otherwise I would stick to the cabled release.
June 8, 2008 Salem Stamper says:
The RC-1 Remote appears at first glance to be a low grade piece of electronics, but it does a wonderful job! It gives you 2 settings, one takes the shot immediately when you push the button, the other takes the picture after a 2 second delay. You are able to stand behind the camera and just hold the remote slightly forward and to the right of the camera avoiding any interference to the shot. I have both the Canon XT and XTi and it works great with both.
    June 4, 2008 shooter135 says:
I like the idea of being in control of my camera at all times. With this product I feel like I am.
    May 22, 2008 NONE says:
I like trying to catch the hummingbirds coming to the feeder on our deck. The feeder hangs from the roof. I put the camera on a tripod on the far side of the feeder facing back toward where I'm sitting on the deck. The feeder is high enough that only blue sky or trees are in the background. I focus on the perch and go sit down. Here they come and I start clickin' In this setting I have no issues with it's effective range.

I have had 2 others of this exact product. The first 2 have been stolen over the years so i'm replacing them with another. Exellent price. They work great!

This product is good size and worked well and seems solid. My only issue with it is, that my camera's remote reception is only on the front of the camera... and normally i'm behind it (taking pictures) and not in front of it... so reaching around to trigger it is little annoying. But that's more the camera than the remote (Rebel XT).

This is a great little devise for those times you need to use the timer function. You remotely push the button so you don't have that deer in the headlights look from running to get into the picture. Took a few minutes to figure out that you have to turn on the timer in the camera for this devise to work.

I have used this on some portrait work when I needed more distance than the 2 foot standard remote provided. It works at distance longer than 16 feet under good conditions. I am confident that it will work well when doing some macro work as well

Bought for use with my Rebel XT (350D) and was just excited about the wireless function. Not as pleased as I had hoped. Pros: Great for photos where I want to jump in but useless for studio work and regular tripod use. 2 function shutter button (2 sec. delay, instant shutter release) is nice. Cons: Bright light does interfer a little and reaching around the front of the camera to click the shutter during studio/tripod use is a pain. AF is hard sometimes, especially in lower light (even if camera focuses when on camera shutter button is half way depressed, using the remote it may not find focus) Really cool gadget for wireless use and family photos where you want to jump in. Not worth it for use in a studio setting or where you just want to get ride of camera shake on a tripod. I prefer my RS-60E3 wired remote (for same price)

I use the remote with my Rebel XT for astronomy imaging with a telescope and tripod mounted macro photography. Works up to its specified range and no wires!!

This remote works well, but you really need to aim it at the front of the camera, which takes practice! Overall I thoroughly enjoy the freedom it gives me to take pictures of the whole family, me included!

The only thing I don't like about the remote is that you have to point it at the front of the camera. I wish you could aim at any angle. Otherwise it has worked nicely.

I bought this one for use with my secondary body; my Rebel Xti. I can be in pictures with my wife with better composition now instead of using the self timer and running into position. I wish My 5d supported this remote as well, because for the price, it does what it should. Doesn't work as well as I want in some outdoor situations.

I've only had the RC-1 Remote for a few weeks, but it has come in real handy. It is great for self-portraits or family shots where you are usually behind the camera instead of with the family. I've also found it useful when taking portraits of babies or small children. You can be on the floor acting silly to make them smile and laugh and take the shot with out having to jump up and run back behind the camera only to loose the smile you worked so hard to get. This is the first camera remote I've owned, so I don't have anything to compair it to but so far I don't have any complaints about it.

My wife and I frequently are on the move enjoying out door activities. And it is my priority to create memories for the both of us in pictures. I have been using the self-timer on my Canon Reble XTi and running to her for the shot before the camera goes off. Now, with the RC-1 I can be right with her when taking the shot without being out-of-breath and be composed, looking relaxed. Just last week we went fly-fishing and got the picture of the both of us casting our flies thanks to the RC-1! For now, I can???t find anything wrong with it. Its sensitivity in distance to camera seems to be more than what is said it is to be. Another great Canon product at our fingers!

This product performs excellent just as described. Nice to be able to shoot in certain environments with the hands off feature.

I purchased this remote for more freedom than one with a cable but bright light caused a lot of interference and wouldn't work. Then with the on/off switch I was constantly forgetting to shut it off thus draining the batteries. I upgraded to the RS-60E3 and love it.

I have used this infrared remote on several occasions for group and self portraits with my EOS Digital Rebel (EOS 300). Be sure to carefully read your camera manual before using. Soft press the remote button to activate auto focus or the camera will take the shot with out activating the auto focus feature. As with any infrared remote, it performs better in low light conditions and will likely be unreliable in direct sunlight. It is best to have a direct clear angle to the camera sensor for best results. I found that practicing with the set up helped a lot in preventing embarrassing situation of not working when the group was ready and counting on me to get the task done. Expertise: Amature photography sense 1974 Problems Encountered: Brightly lit areas degraded performance.Remembering proper set up for camera without the manual in hand. Not enough effective range when involving capture of large group requiring the camera to be staged at limit of useful range of remote. Items I Recommend: Canon EOS systems

I got this remote for my EOS 10s almost 20 years ago and now I can use it with my Rebel XT. It's been attached to my strap the whole time. I use it for macro and other pictures on a tripod It's a must have item. Expertise: Long time Hobbyist Problems Encountered: No problem

The RC-1 does invoke the auto-focus beforeactivating the shutter so you either need to account for this or do your focusing manually. I have had no problems in low-lit or brightly lit pictures. Mainly used for taking scenery and use with macro lens. Could be slightly larger to handle but would recommend. Problems Encountered: None Items I Recommend: Canon xTi

My digital Rebel delayed timer feature does not activate theauto-focus of the lens. A big problem for takingself-portraits. The RC-1 does invoke the auto-focus beforeactivating the shutter. The 2 second delay feature gives meenough time to hide the remote in my hand before the shutterclicks. All my problems have been solved with the RC-1. Problems Encountered: None.
