SIIG 3-port FireWire Adapter (NN-E38012-S3)

I was using a different card prior to this, but decided to try this one when I noticed a much different transfer speed across our network. I switched the old one out with this model and my speeds instantly improved to where I expected them to be. I definitely recommend this card.

The firewire chipset built into my computer's mainboard was known to be problematic for my application. The Texas Instruments chipset on this card solved the problems I was having with the connectivity to my M-Audio ProFire 610 interface.

There's a version of this exact card made by Dynex (DX-PCI2PF) and sold at [...] for [$]. Works perfectly. Installed without issue in seconds on Win 7 - 64 bit. 1394b connectivity works great with Lexar Pro card reader (firewire 800 version).I'm sure the SIIG version is great, too, but at [$] the price difference can't be justified in my opinion.

Pros: Inexpensive solution for digital audio workstations requiring solid communication with audio interfaces. Works perfectly well out of the box with Macintosh, 10.6. This includes a Molex to Molex/floppy Y-adapter cable, which doesn't really solve the problem of how to power this card when you need to. Well made, sleeved 4-pin floppy-type power extension cables that can reach all the way to the back of an ATX case, let alone EATX case are hard to come by. Had to have one custom made.

Got this for my MacPro so I can run a Mojo and an external drive at the same time. Works great! On my MacPro, I didn't need the power cable that comes with it but thats cool that they include it for the PC people. As usual, B&H was great[...], good prices. Thanks B&H!

Provides immediate identification of the Drobo FireWire 800 connection, however the power cable provided (which is optional in some cases, but REALLY needed if you want to use the 2nd 800 port for another device, and also increases the data transfer rate of the Drobo) only has LP4 (IDE) power cable connectors. All the new systems are SATA, and until I find a similar Y-split power cable that is SATA to power the card I have to live with lower data transfer rate. SIIG support is a joke (example: when I asked if they can direct me to a vendor that sells the SATA version of the same cable they provided in the package, the answer was: try local computer stores... Gee, now that's helpful (needless to say that was the first thing I did). Any suggestions?

Pros: Compatible,Easy To InstallNeeded both the 400 & 800 models, plus a chip compatible with Windows 7. This seems to be it! (but my Win7 upgrade hasn't arrived yet)... Later...
