We are running a dual widescreen, PC, and phone system on this UPS. We tested and found it sustained power for 16 minutes. This was more than enough time to secure the system safely.

I own two of this model of UPS. I use one under software control to protect my computer from summer time fluctuations and to ensure an orderly shutdown during power outages. The other one is used without the software to operate my garage door opener, when there is a complete power outage. I have found the hardware reliable and even this smaller model provides sufficient capacity for these personal use tasks.

Pros: This is a good UPS unit that's a step above the 350 watt entry-level ones that are typically sold for home use, and this is helpful if you have a PC with a multi-core processor or other power-sucking features. APC's PowerChute software is helpful for setting features and observing battery health.
Cons: Per APC's own literature, users CAN NOT turn off the built-in beeper on the CS 500 UPS. This is a MAJOR, if not disqualifying drawback for anyone hoping to use this unit at home where middle-of-the-night power outages may occur, and where the resulting beeping will awaken anyone within earshot. Yes, it's probably possible to take the thing apart and snip the wires to the beeper, but this really shouldn't be needed on a sophisticated UPS. See http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8914/kw/alarm/session/%3D for APC's info on disabling the beeper.

Pros: Easy To Setup; Long Lasting Power; Reliable Performance; Durable; Lasts years; Quiet Operation; Adequate Power
The battery in my 1st CS 500 lasted over 6 years. I plan to get a new battery for it and use it as APC for our entertainment system. These are truly reliable -- "set and forget."

Pros: Small Footprint; Easy To Setup; Adequate Power; Quiet Operation

First time using this product,so far its doing what it is supposed to do.

Pros: Small Footprint; Easy To Setup; Adequate Power
    Cons: One monitor only
Output sufficient for one computer and one monitor for reasonable backup time. Get a larger size if you want to increase number of peripherals or computers to the backup.

Pros: Quiet Operation; Small Footprint; Adequate Power
    Cons: Lacks Power
Not really suited for work environment - would be best for home systems. We purchased this as an interim solution for another UPS whose batteries failed and are being replaced. Also pricey - have purchased much better UPS's for less (Dollar/Usable Wattage comparison)

Pros: I live in one of the most lightning prone areas of the US with frequent dropouts of line power; more often that not with a duration of just enough to make the lights flicker but long enough to recycle the computer without UPS or to make the battery switchover alarm chirp with UPS.
I?ve used one of these, a BK500MC, for nearly 12 years without issue. Yesterday, the external battery died but initially I wasn?t sure whether it was the battery or the UPS; the reason I was looking here for a possible replacement.
I use an inexpensive garden tractor battery and that?s what it was after 5 years of service.
I tried to use the computer without the UPS but it was impossible.
    Cons: Haven't found one.

Pros: The APC handles power outages great and it works well with Linux the time is wrong on the stats but it will normally last about 18 to 19 minutes
Cons: Unlike Linux you are required to use the MFG's application and I would rate the Power Chute Program POOR.
