I bought this as a spare for a Canon camcorder, Vixia HV20. Overall it's what you would expect from a battery. Battery life is pretty average, around 1-1.5 hours when shooting video, depending on what mode you're using. Recharge could be a little faster but that's more a function of the camera design than the battery, considering you can't charge the battery while the camera is on. It works well.

Having a back-up battery pack is a must. Canon, for some reason, makes it less intuitive which is the most appropriate model for the corresponding camcorder. There are conflicting directions from Canon's website as well as the retailers'. I would still prefer a Canon product over an off-brand alternative. The performance of this 809B is better than the one that came with the camera (807), but not to the extent advertised. Therefore, the price is relatively high. But, for long trips, where recharge may not be as easily to access, having a back-up is a must.

Purchased as a spare, with the wall charger it charges fast and lasts a fairly good while. I was getting about 3 hours out of it with the LCD turned off. The odd thing about the battery is that its smaller than the standard battery that came with my camera yet they are both the same capacity. I would have purchased the next step up from this but didn't want it sticking out the back of the camera but I think it would have been fine.

Not had a chance to use this yet. Bought it for my HF S100. I couldn't find any physical size information so figured it was the same as the stock battery as the capacity is the same. Not true - it's physically smaller, so fits 'indented'. Next will get bigger capacity 819 and hope it makes better use of the space. The only reason I wouldn't recommend this is because I value extra capacity but didn't want a big battery sticking out the back. I reckon the 819 would be better for me (but I don't know how big that is either).

Battery life is an issue with these Canon batteries. Without a 2nd battery, recording time is greatly compromised. Improved use time would be the answer. In the meantime, this is essential.

I'm glad I bought it before I left to Spain, because I couldn't find it there. I have two batteries and each one was about 110 minutes.
