I liked the idea of a Green UPS that doesn t waste power in the storing of energy but the off-gassing smell was pretty awful. I like the smell of new electronics but this was an sweet acrid smell of heated plastic that made my nose feel like it would bleed if I kept breathing it. I kept the ceiling fan on in my office to disperse it and after a week it s much better but still noticeable with the fan off. I am hoping that this will go away completely as it is quite unpleasant. This UPS does all the $200 units do but only has the VA550 power level. I have never seen one like this for only $55 ish. I had to only power a 17" CRT with a 5 year old PC and it works well. The Software is really good as many do not have this kind of clear and easy to view and nice looking software. It even tells you what the volts are that your wall outlet is giving you. This is a good deal for the price and all the extras it has. The only down side is that it is running at 70 percent of the Watt output used. I knew this would be so and find the 7-12 minutes battery time good for the price. IF you have a LCD monitor or just fewer Watts used you could get 20-30 minutes back up time. Those stop working in 12 to 15 months! The CyberPower ones operate at least 24 to 30 months - twice as long for the same price. Without the power going out, it has dropped power to my computer unexpectedly, the same as unplugging my computer from the wall. If the power had gone out, the battery should have kicked in, but it wasn't power outages, just a failure of the UPS to work at all. The battery in mine wore out in about 13 months. Now that the battery is gone, it will crash a PC on a brownout that wouldn't affect one plugged directly into the wall. As near as I can figure it, it must be instantaneously failing over to the dead battery on any flicker which crashes the PC. Maybe its not so bad to get a years protection for this price, but I have two others that cost twice this much that have protected equipment for nearly four years with no signs of failing.
