Pros: I use this for my home network. My network has 24 ports available on it due to twelve 4-way wall plates with 2 ports in each. All machines are dual homed. This switch is a great value and streaming 1 Gb/sec (or close to it) from one machine to another is a dream. D-Link makes a solid low-end switch with Jumbo packets support and, for the price, this is a great value.
    Cons: None, it's been solid
Don't expect a fully managed switch. This thing does QoS with intelligent firmware.

Pros: If any of you have priced out 1Gig switches you know that they are expensive once you get over the 5 to 9 port variety. This one was not with 24 ports I thought it a steal. It has no fans so it is quiet which is another plus.
    Cons: None so far.
I am not sure that it will measure up to the more commerical switches but I am using this this at home and it works great. Just for back ground I have friends over for Lan Gaming and with all the devices that now support Network connection I just needed more ports. I know as time goes on we will have more and more devices that need network connections and This baby fits in nicely for home use.

Pros: Its a 24 port 10/100/1000 switch. It does its job and does it without complaint. I've not had any issues connecting anything to it so far. All speeds are what the max the systems interface can do. I have a mix in my setup and they all talk to each other through the switch just fine. Speeds have been good.

If your fan is noisy, remove the fan and carefully peel back the label and squirt a little bit of oil into the bearing. Stick the label back down and enjoy the quieter fan.

Pros: Works great, plug it in and it works! Rack mountable, so I have it mounted right next to my older model of this switch.
Cons: The activity lights are set up weird compared to the older model I have, and they are not ordered with the ports, so its harder to tell which cables are or are not active. Not really a big deal, just something I noticed.
Im really impressed with the D-Link DGS-1024D, and have never had any issues with the two versions of this model I own. Both work great, run fast, and have never been a issue!

Pros: Fanless design. My old 24 port 10/100 had only one problem -- each of its fans died, one after the other, about 2 years apart. But this one has fewer components of lower power dissipation, and achieves all its cooling passively.
Cons: Does not transform into a barbecue.

Low Heat - I couldn't detect any heat for that matter. No fan?? Wow.
Perfect for a wiring enclosure with little air flow
Great price for a gigabit 24 port switch
    Rack mount option
Cons: zero....none..... I usually find myself only reviewing really good products or really poor products. This switch hit a homerun for me.

Pros: Using this on a home network with Ubuntu 10.04 linux. Of course, there's no reason why a network switch should not work with linux, but it never hurts to see positive verification. Open the box, set it up, plug it in - it works.
Cons: For some inexplicable reason, the included CD has a Windows .exe file that does nothing but load the manual in Adobe Reader. Oh, it also loads an HTML file that tells you where to get support. It runs under WINE in linux, but don't bother - you can load the manual directly, and you won't be missing anything.

Pros: I does just what I expect of a switch. Plug it in and it works. Quiet, I have it sitting right by my desk and doesn't bother me. (I think it doesn't make a sound at all). The indicators make it easy to see what links are connected at 1G and which ones are slower.
Cons: I have to agree with one other review I saw that the ordering of the port numbers is a bit unusual, but this is really a nit pick.

works reliably - low cost older version used an internal fan that was noisy... latest version (same model number) has better venting and no fan. I've had one of these in service for several years. I just received another yesterday 7/14/2010. Both are the same model but look slightly different. This new one has NO fan so it has no fan noise. The vent holes in the case are much larger and you can see straight through it. You can see several large heat sinks internally. Presumably this is to allow it to operate without a fan at all... less energy and less noise. Performance on my older one (at least three years old) had dropped somewhat. Presumably this is because the fan quit working quite some time ago and the unit's case was more than a little hot. After a day of heavy use the new one is not warm at all and performance is back to what I'd expect.

If you are setting up a small network, make sure that you have a router between the modem and the switch, because the switch can only pass the modem's IP address along to the first device that it contacts.

First they were rude to me and then they told me that it was defective and that I would have to pay for shipping to them even though it was defective from the start. They wouldnt even let me talk to a supervisor. So I ended up calling them back and and getting a different rep who said that she could transfer me to a supervisor and then asked for my case number then put me on hold and went and talked to the previous person I talked to. Im assuming they were friends or sat close to one another , but she then came back on and said she couldnt transfer me to a supervisor and absolutely would not let it happen. Anyhow I use skype to make all my calls to companies because skype gives me the ability to record phone calls. I have these conversations as mp3 files and will keep them for awhile.

Pros: Great switch, I haven't ran into a single issue with it thus far. I currently have it residing in the closet and it's remaining cool and quiet.
    Cons: None as of yet.

Dropped packets with jumbo frames larger than 7k. Had to scale back the gigabit cards. Better overall than Fast Ethernet switches, but does not have near the performance of low-end managed switches. Best suited for small businesses without expansion planned.

Small, comes with rack mount kit, gigabit speeds. Two fans, sucks dust, watch out for that. A lot of complaints about noise, who is putting a 24 port switch on a desk? If using at home dedicate a closet for networking/server equipment and never worry about noise again.

Pros: When their up a working they work great. Speed and overall LAN environment are snappy and responsive to say the least. We are able to prove easy interoperability to larger LAN infrastructures with little or no connectivity issues.
Cons: This switch is on a lightly loaded server rack. So it isn't terribly busy. However, I've now had to send it back for repair twice in less than a year. When it dies there is no indications that is has bit the farm. It registers connectivity and full negotiations but the computers and servers can not reach past the switch to the router. Same problem with both switches.

I am a technology integration specialist so I spend quite a bit of my time purchasing networking infrastructure for many small to medium research projects. Price wise these fit our needs for a quick set up, down & dirty deployable rack. But these are causing way to much

Pros: Great switch for the price. Brought my home network up to gigabit speeds and I'll have the ports available for when I finish wiring the CAT6 to the rest of the rooms!
Cons: fan's a little loud, but it's not anywhere that can bother someone so it's not really that big of a con

Easy to setup, high performance, reliable, cheap. Unmanaged, loud. Don't put this under your desk: mount it in a closet or a machine room. I'm amazed at how much different it made in a small home LAN, just for samba and NFS traffic. Couple it with a couple of PCI-Express Intel 10/100/1000 NICs, and you'll have a great, stable, FAST network.

Fast (Gigabit); Cheap; Rack-Mountable; 24 Ports; Cool; Quiet Small size makes that part of the rack feel empty; Showcases my poor cable management skills. Using it in my home server rack. Freaking awesome. Replaced two lesser switches. Would prefer these switches had the ports in back, but I doubt I'm going to change the whole industry standard.

Pros: I have this switch running with a d-link gigabit gaming router and my LAN flies. The hardest part is getting a computer fast enough to take advantage of the bandwidth. We plugged this thing in, hooked 15 computewrs into it and it just worked right away with no setup.
Cons: It didn't come with the screws to rack mount the device. It had the screws to attach the brackets to the unit, just not the brackets to the rack frame.

Is "snappy" fast when you pull up LAN folders. Make sure you have a gigabit router and gigabit ethernet cards. Some old 10/100 switches didn't like our new dlink router.
