Bought 2 KVM's to switch between 8 pcs. 1-2 seconds between switching, sometimes it's only 1/2 a second. It's totally hardware independant how fast's the switch. Saves me money and time. Works well regardless how many pc's are attached. No problems drawing enough power from USB. No hanging up hitting esc key doesnt fix.

Pros: Wanted to post an update to my previous review. Still working like a charm controlling my Mac Mini, Windows XP machine, xbox 360, and the 4th port dangles out front for computers that need service.
Recently moved back to a Microsoft Natural Pro Ergonomic kybd and was worried about incompatibilities and loss of = control keys.
Solved it by taking auto-detect off of the Mini port and specifying Mac OS, now [CTRL] [2] or [3] handles the volume control thanks to the KVM switch. The Natural Pro is a PS2 kybd with a USB converter and it isn't recognized by the MS Control Panel so I couldn't remap any keys. No solution on the web. Thanks IOGear!
    Cons: None for me.

Pros: This is a reasonably priced keyboard-mouse-video-sound switch. Two of the four cables can be removed if you only have two computers attached. The switch does not require external power.
Cons: It's best to not have this switch in the video stream when installing Ubuntu. Apparently the "read information about video monitor" commands do not work properly when the video is routed through this switch. Ubuntu will install just fine, but the video screen size may be incorrect.

    Pros: Nothing.
Cons: I wonder whether IOgear are doing what Jack Tramiel did with the Commodore 64: use the customer as the final QA station.
It's hard to think of another explanation for the number of IOgear kvm units that are dead or dying out of the box.
On the one I was sent, video worked, mouse worked, keyboard didn't. Port 4 passed keystrokes for maybe 2-3 minutes before dying. None of the other ports passed even one keystroke.
This represented such poor QA that I'm going to return it for refund rather than exchange. As an earlier reviewer noted, a 3-year warranty is no substitute for reliable quality out of the box.
I have 4 computers I'd like to control from the same console, but until I can find a maker whose 4-port products are of high quality, I'll make do with a 2-porter, probably from Rosewill since they seem to do nice work.

The only bad things I had to say about The MiniView is that my speakers did not work because I had no power supply, so I used a USB power supply and it works great. Cons: I used the swtch to switch among three windows-based systems. The hot keys worked great and the switching was flawless for about two weeks. One fine day I powered it on and it would no longer switch. After using the hot keys, the keyboard would just blink and freeze. Usually crawling behing the desk and toggling a USB connection would get things going. I called IOGEAR, got an RMA and returned the product. The turn-around was really good -- the results were really bad -- still didn't work. Now it sits in the closet. No more IOGEAR for me.

The IOGEAR rep who responds to the "complaints" on this forum occasionally refers to the fractional failure rate of this product. Two thoughts: 1) it doesn't matter how low the fraction is when your product is one of the failures and 2) 3/4 is a fraction also. It would help to quantify the fraction. Since I have

IOGEAR's support is amazing as well (read other comments on what happened), they were quick to respond instead of waiting for weeks. Packaging was pretty good as well. No external power supply and didn't know I would need one. The KVM is powered by the usb cables which I thought was convenient, why need an external power? Well turns out USB can only power so much and with a more complicated keyoard like my Razer Lycosa with lights and what not, the keyboard would lose power momentarily till the USB could catch back up. This is why some more expensive KVM's come with an external power. I didn't want to get rid of the hub so I got a external powered USB Hub and now all is well.
Do keep this in mind with any usb powered KVM

Pros: A nice solid product. Switches between my XP and Linux systems without a hitch. The audio-optional switch is a nice feature (you can listen to iTunes on your XP while working on your Linux).
This choice was a bit of overkill for my application - just two computers (not four) - but after readying the product reviews this one seemed particularly robust and I am not disappointed.
I even like the relatively large size of the unit (necessary for the four connections it supports). It sits firmly on my desktop and is a nifty support for one of my speakers.

No button on KVM to manually switch between computers (hot key only). If you have multiple computers but only want to use 1 monitor, keyboard, and mouse to control them, a KVM is for you. I have owned several 4-port KVM's. The big thing to look for is video quality. As monitors and screen resolutions have become bigger, older/cheaper KVM's are not capable of displaying the higher resolutions, or if they are, the video is out of focus or ghosting. PS/2 KVM's are super reliable and fast at switching, but good PS/2 keyboard and mice are becoming harder to find in favor of USB. That is what lead me to purchase the IOGear KVM. I had a Zonet PS/2 KVM that was working fine, but I wanted to upgrade to a more ergonomic USB keyboard and mouse. I tried Zonet USB's model, and was not happy with the video quality at all. Based on the reviews, I purchased the IOGear, and have been happy since.

    1. If you are still using a PS-2 keyboard, plan on getting a usb keyboard to go with this. They don't play nice together. Not even with a ps-2 to usb adapter.
    2. If you have to re-install the OS on any connected PC (whether Windows or Linux) you should disconnect the PC from the KVM and do the install in a stand-alone situation. Otherwise, bad juju will ocur. PC won't remember custom display or mouse settings after rebooting.

Pros: nice pretty switch box. It's a 4-to-1 switch box with 2 sets permanently attached and 2 open connectors for additional connections. Perfect for what I needed it for which is to manage 2 computers with 1 keyboard, mouse, monitor.
Cons: the hotkey is a little awkward. You need to press the scroll-lock key twice and then a number from the main keyboard, won't work with the number pad. I understand why they did what they did but it would have been better if you could switch quickly with one hand rather than 2.

Pros: I like that you can switch monitor and keyboard from system one to system two and still hear the audio from one if you want. Tons of features. Great price. I also like the additional two connectors arent hard wired.
Cons: Its minor but I would like it if the lights also indicated which systems were powered on and which one you were currently accessing. Avocent makes a KVM that does this, but its to much money.

This could simply be my wireless keyboard and mouse, but Knoppix didnt see the mouse, and on the initial boot into ubuntu, or opensuse the keyboard isnt recognized until the system finishes booting. some longer cables would be nice but its not a big deal. This is also the First time I have seen this on a product from the egg, but the box was slashed with a box knife, all contents were fine though.

Pros: It has a nice Apple look to it, so if it's out in the open (mine's not) it's not an eyesore. Asdie from the Cons below, it works reasonably well.
Cons: I have owned this for 10 months now, and to date I have been unable to get the unit to recognize a second computer if the first is on. Currently I have a desktop and a laptop that I hook up to it. If I want to use the laptop, I power down the desktop before I power up the laptop (or vice versa if I want to use the desktop). I just built a new desktop, and I'm still seeing the same behavior. I don't usually need to use both at once, so it hasn't been a huge issue to me, but it is an inconvenience.

I bought this KVM to replace a 2 port Belkin Flip that started acting flaky after about 8 months of use. The Iogear works great. Just plug it into your computers and you are good to go. Comes with all you need. Two of the cables are integrated into the KVM and cannot be removed. Comes with two additional that you add as needed. I would highly reccomend this product given the price and ease of use. It is a bit bulky so you probably won t want it on your desk (especially once you plug all the cables in). Nice job Iogear. Thanks for solving my KVM headaches!

I also like the port layout on this particular KVM; All connectors/cables come out the back of the unit and the master USB keyboard/mouse connectors are located on the right side of the box. This KVM is compact and sleek looking as well. I like it...

Pros: Switches USB Keyboard and mouse faster than mt CRT can react. Low profiles makes it easy to stash, and cables only use two sides. You can switch the KB, Mouse, and Video while allowing the audio to stay on the previous setting. I have a linkskey two port usb connected to one port to ad a 5th PC, so daisy chaining is possible.
Cons: Only one of my PCs operate the non-powered speakers at a decent level, so you may need self powered speakers.

The linkskey kvm will switch when the keyboard commands are used to select another input. This is good, in that you can switch that KVM without switching this KVM, but it means another hotkey input when switching back to that PC.

Works great; easy to setup; attached cables are a nice touch; small; fast switching times; works with Linux and Vista None so far I have three PCs in my office - two are running Linux and one is running Vista. I also have a dual monitor setup. The Vista PC is always using one monitor. I use this product to switch between the other monitor between the two Linux PCs and also the Vista machine (as a second monitor - dual display). It has worked great now for over 5 months without any problems. I use it repeatedly during the day and have never had any problems with it. The switch times are fast and key sequence is easy once you get used to it.

Pros: Worked right out of the box as advertised. Switches quickly. I've owned 3 KVMs, all of which gave me grief. But so far, not this one -- it's doing the job. It has a nice flat, compact design, so unit can sit under other items, saving footprint space on my desk.
Cons: No push buttons on unit, which I would actually prefer to the hot-key method of switching. Not a big deal. Indicator lights on front panel are not clearly visible except when viewed head-on.

Pros: No delay, handles multiple platforms, up to 4 systems, comes with all cables needed, has some extra features such as switching all but sound or switching only sound.
Cons: The hot-key sequence to switch over should be completely configurable instead of a choice of two default sequences. Support for duel screens would be cool. We still figured out a way to do it, but support for it would make it more fully functional.

Flawless operation. USB components switch over with out a problem. Scroll Lock + Scroll Lock + Enter key combination is sorta cumbersome but I got use to it. At first I was confused on how the USB connected to each computer because there wasn't a USB connector on each port. But then I found that the USB signal travels on the video cable and terminates at a USB connector. Pretty slick design if you ask me.
