This is quite a quot;Swiss Army Knife quot; of a product that can be used for all sorts of applications that involve connecting a serial (RS232) device to a network. I have used them as quot;reverse telnet servers quot; to put old bar code printers far away from the Linux server that drives them. I just configure the printer as a JetDirect raw device and it works. I m sure it s even easier to use in Windows but I haven t had occasion to try it. In the old days, we used to get a pair of short-haul modems to do this sort of thing, but this is far easier--no serial port required on the computer, and you can manage the device with a web interface or even telnet. If you do have a short-haul modem application, I gather you can even configure a pair of devices to automatically connect to each other.
