Pros: Compared to similar 2.1 setups, you can't beat these. After trying a few other brands (some that were a little more expensive), these had a clearer sound and crisper beats. The sub performs surprisingly well for its size; it actually rattles my solid hardwood desk from the floor next to it. With enough bass, you can even feel it in your chest. You won't get that with anything else in the price range. At high volumes, the speakers can put out an impressive overwhelming flow of music and more importantly, maintains its clarity and doesn't mash notes, melodies, singing, etc. together. The flat black case on the speakers and sub give it a quality look and the modern design makes them look luxurious.

Cons: Some stuff can sound a little muddled, like lots of movement or heavy electric guitar playing in a song, is where I noticed it. Some deep bass lines can also sometimes blend together. This isn't really a con, but I don't think the item description said the sub was downward firing, so make sure you have a nice hard floor to set it on for best results.

For the price range, these speakers are perfect. They obviously won't touch a high end system, but they work really well for a beginner/entry system to clean up the sound of your music and movies from the stock speakers or monitor speakers. Definitely a must if you're looking for an upgrade.

Overall good sound. Excellent if you are using itunes and can adjust volume settings thru the equalizer. Overall really good sound for the $ in comparison to systems $70 to $100. Perfect for a bedroom setup. The subwoofer sounds better than i expected via itunes sound equalizer.

The sound only works in one channel now and the quality is so poor with the volume control. Bang for buck its tolerable, but since mine was defective, definitely think twice with these speakers.

The packaging was neat, once you opened main shell of the box there's a inner box that has finger slots/handles in it to allow you to pull all the components out easily.

Cons: As another reviewer mentioned, BE CAREFUL picking up or moving the center woofer speaker because the speaker is unprotected on bottom side of it's cabinet and of course that's where your fingers will automatically go when moving it.

Adequate to the task. I don't expect much from a back-up set of computer speakers for my back-up computer. It also works on my kitchen TV monitor. I don't agree with the criticism that the wired remote control is inconveniently located. It's fine just where it is. I do agree with the criticism about not being able to separately control the subwoofer but, again, what do you expect for the money? It is well worth the modest investment.

Audio is important, and a giant flat screen with tiny speakers just won't do justice to custom music and sfx. This system is a bargain to accomplish that. When I saw these in the store I thought wow they are so tiny there is now way I am getting them and started looking at some more expensive models. I then hit the button on the display model for a sound test. Somebody had left the volume turned up really loud. I was floored that such big sound came from a tiny little set of speakers and sub. I consider myself an audiophile but am not an audio snob. Just because the speakers are cheap doesn't mean they do not sound good. With a little tweaking with the equalizer and different sound fields they sound even better. These are not going to win any db or loudness awards but at moderate levels they sound good. Way better than the old outdated speakers I have moved from computer to computer over the years. As for other people not liking the wired control pod, I love it! I don't have to reach all the way up to the left speaker to adjust. I keep it right by my mouse. So my advise is go for it for the price they can not be beat.

I bought these to hook up to my computer for when I play music off iTunes or watch a movie off Netflix. I, also, connect my iPhone and iPod to this occasionally. The sound quality is better than I expected from such a small unit. The bass really hits, too, and hearing the bass in a song is always necessary.

WOW! I'm amazed by these speakers. As a professional audio engineer, I can share with confidence in that these speakers produce clear and full sound. Yes, they don't blow the roof off of the place in terms of volume, but they sound great at modest volumes. I'm amazed at the frequency response in the 100-200 hz range. I have these hooked up to a mixer so I can run all of my components through them. My explosions on Call of Duty: Black Ops, really sound nice through the subwoofer. If you are using this system with iTunes, select the "Hip-Hop" Equalizer settings (under window) for best sounding music. For $35 they just can't be beat if you're in the market for budget speakers.

Bought these to put on my wife's computer that does not have a sound card, the chip set is built into the motherboard.

Appearance is excellent, hook up is easy, and the sound was better than anythng under $50.

What surprised me, it did not plug into the sound card connections but uses the headphone jack, which is on the front of the computer. Not clean and the wire running around the front of the computer is a nuisance.

When I first hooked up these speakers, I won't lie, I didn't like the poor bass response that was coming from them even with the sub hooked up. Then I decided to take a look at the EQ on my iTunes and it was flat!! I cracked some of the bass a bit more, gave it some mids...and the speakers SANG!! Do not be fooled. If you hook these speakers up and don't fiddle with the EQ settings a bit, you may miss out on the awesome sound quality that these speakers can deliver. Another plus (but maybe a minus for some people) are the lack of features. This is strictly plug and play, there are no dials or extra baggage with these speakers which is what it should be. Simplicity, sonic goodness, and saturation.?Overall, if you are looking for speakers to play games and watch movies, these will fill that bill without a problem. If your looking for speakers to listen to a lot of music with, you may want to pass these over and look for something else.

The sound for this package is amazing. I compared this unit to a similar Sony unit and this product took the cake hands down. Do not hesitate to pick up the Z313 as it is well worth the price. The only drawback I was able to find was the corded remote it comes with. I think it would have been easier to adjust the speakes on the sub itself.

If you can find this for $30 I suggest you jump all over it. It's hard enough finding a quality 2.1 system for <$50. Overall I'm pleased with the system, but anything is an upgrade over the standard stereo speakers the computer maker gives you.
The sub cone is too small and underpowered, or you could say there's too much power to the stereo speakers as the overall system power is adequate. The crossover doesn't filter high enough to the stereo speakers. Meaning, the satellites hit too low. Therefore the satellites tiny speakers are overtaxed and sub 80Hz range, which should be omnidirectional, are now in stereo which affects imaging.
I expected a bass control on the wired remote which would allow the sub to be more prominent. If you aren't placing the sub near the keyboard, the wire to the remote is kind of short so it has to stay in the proximity of the sub. That's fine if you don't adjust the volume, turn off the unit, or plug in headphones frequently.
Now for the good parts. It's compact size allows for a stealth set-up. The sound quality is quite good even at maxed out volume levels. If I had a do-over, I'd still have bought it. For the money, I really can't complain.

The set is great! I paid $35 and it's a steal at this price. I think $45 is still an ok price, BUT, with no bass volume control, you might want to consider putting the 45 towards a set with that feature. It's not a real big deal not having that control but it would prevent you from having to adjust the bass thru the player, which can get frustrating mid movie.

For the price, the speakers do the job and add a richer sound than the basic computer speakers. If you are really looking for strong, deep base at higher volume levels, these are not for you. If you are just looking for a richer sound than the basic small computer speakers, these are perfect.

Speakers sounded good on some music and sounded like you were in a tunnel on other music. Subwoofer needs to have knob to adjust bass. Remote is a bad design, I would rather have the knobs on one of the speakers. I ended up returning these, but am still researching before I get a different set.

Really, you can't. You WILL get your moneys worth! Unless your a musician, audio geek, av guy, your going to love the sound! It is really clear, you can feel the subwoofer doing its thing; I'm listening to New Age music now and it's absolutely beautiful!!! I was a little concerned about the 25 watts, and ulness you turn it ALL THE WAY up, there is no distortion. That is however, why I gave it 4 stars on performance instead of 5.
If your looking for an inexpensive speaker with subwoofer set, I strongly recommend the z3's. You'll love them!

I'm not actually using this as PC speakers, but rather as a boombox replacement using a portable CD player. Hook-up is easy using the standard headphone jack of any portable music player or soundcard. I originally looked at iPod docking stations as a solution, but found them rather pricey, especially since I don't own or use an iPod. The sound of these speakers is quite impressive considering the small size and price. The wired "remote" is not as useful as a wireless remote, but has the important volume and on/off controls. If you're thinking of using this as a portable speaker solution, note that the subwoofer is a bit heavy and the speakers "pop" when you plug the unit into an outlet (but not when you turn it on/off with the switch). Overall I'm quite happy with the value of this product.

I thought that these would be better than the $40 Phillips speakers that we have, but NO, the Phillips are much louder with lots more bass. The Phillips BLOWS away these speakers and they are the same size, same specs. If you just want it somewhat louder, go ahead and get them. If you are looking for something loud with alot of bass, these are not for you. Spend more money on something else or find the white Phillips speakers for $40 instead.
