Pros: I ran a 30 foot Cat 6 off my WNR3500L router to this switch, then attached my NAS to it and also ran off to two WDTVs for additional video streaming elsewhere in home. Been handling the job perfectly and has never once needed to be reset. The router is full up with devices also and the busy network doesn't phase it at all. The ultimate definition of plug and play.Cons: I can't seem to find one.Isn't it a bit unnerving that doctors call what they do "practice"?

Pros: Compact, Low power consumption, Easy to Use, Fast, Solid Construction, Energy Star Compliant, Class A EM ComplianceCons: Limited number of PortsI am using this as the primary network node for a pfSense router/firewall. I just plugged it in and hooked up my cables and it was good to go. It is super compact, can be ran directly off of 12vDC and has a lifetime warranty. Also I do like the fact that each port has LEDs to indicate activity and Gigabit vs. a 10 or 100 Mbps connection. It is easy to tell what network or machine is talking. Another thing is that I have seen these switches operate outside in the heat of day in Iraq with 120 degree weather, although it is recommended to place these in a cool room. The switch is also power efficient only consuming 12 watts. I was also able to get a 20ms ping with my pfSense machine and the switch hooked up with only 2ms jitter.

These make great placeholder switches when connecting new equipment - I keep a spare in my office so that when adding new equipment we can just use this as a placeholder while evaluating more heavy duty (e.g., 24+ port) switches. While many networks require larger switches than this, this makes an excellent backup solution as well as being quite cost effective for patching together larger switches or for those rare scenarios where you only need a four way switch. Although others have reported failures, I have not with any of my netgear equipment (5, 8, and 24 port switches).

Actually smaller than the picture shown. I think PCC is using a picture from an older model year. All the plugs and lights are on one side of the unit. I like that as it is just mounted on my closet wall connecting different rooms in my house. If you want something sitting on your desk, then you might prefer that the plugs and lights are on opposite sides. Has a smaller buffer than competing units, but since I'm not really using all the ports at once, this isn't a problem. Works great over CAT5e and I didn't need to upgrade my wiring to CAT6 to get gigabit speed.

Pros: Simple, unmanaged switch, matches well to Gigabit adapters with jumbo frame support in most all desktops made today. It's been on for two months, never needed to reset it yet. When we installed it, we tested it with our machines on 100Mbps without Jumbo frame support, then modified them to 1Gbps + 9k jumbo frames, and got 3x's the performance on file transfers (1/3 the time on 'larger' files). Was easy to mount on the wall. Awkward power-in-back, ethernet-in-front design. Not a big deal. Gets a bit hot. Not a big deal. I called Netgear support, and they were actually good enough to talk me through attempting to configure my network (even with just this switch as the only Netgear component). I wanted wired PCs to talk through the switch directly to the 'net AND to be able to route internal/incoming traffic in particular ways. This appears to be impossible, due to DHCP settings/restrictions my ISP has (and most ISPs apparently do the same).Fortunately, my router takes care of that, but now I have them all running as PCs->switch->router->internet. That means all traffic goes through the router. But it'd be nice to have a wider pipe (in theory if nothing else) straight to the internet. Oh well.

Using a NETGEAR GS108NA, GS105 and 2 SMC SMC9452TX NICs for a small 1Gbps home network - all work well together with jumbo frames. Kudos Neweeg for awesome prices and service!

The switch I got actually looks a bit different then the one in the picture. Its smaller (no "dead space" to the left of the plugs). none. I don't observe any heat issues as reported in another review. Maybe because I got a newer version (would explain the difference to the picture). Under low use, the switch is barely warm. Haven't checked under high use yet, but typically that doesn't make a difference for this type of switch

This little router is a solid performer. To be honest i've not yet run a GbE network from it, as i use it just in my dorm, which doesn't have GbE, but i'll be able to expand in the future, which is nice, because my laptop has GbE. It does run a little warm sometimes, but i don't see this as a bad thing. The processor inside is heat-sinked to allow for cooling. It's a solid machine, and i've never had any problems with it.

I purchased one of these last week and it turns out this switch does NOT support jumbo frames.I though the linksys did, but apparaently it doesn't either. The SMC gigabit switch is the only one under xxx that does.If you're going for a gigabit network, jumbo frames make a huge difference in performance.

Pretty nice switch, works great. My only complaint is that it tends to be bit hot. Hasnt affected performance, so far so good. To be able to run a gig network at home is cool, I'd recommend the Netgear 10/100/1000 copper gig nic (GA302T).
