SIIG's DP FireWire 800 PCIe is a superior adapter card designed to add FireWire 800 interface to your computer for connecting multiple high-speed FireWire devices. It features three external FireWire 800 (1394b) ports, delivers data transfer rates up to 800 Mb/s, supports isochronous and asynchronous data transfer modes, features Plug-n-Play connection of peripheral devices and allows you to connect and disconnect devices without turning your system off. It works flawlessly with a variety of FireWire 400 (1394a) and FireWire 800 (1394b) devices including DV camcorders, hard disk drive enclosures, digital cameras, scanners, CD-RW/DVD drives, video game systems, and other audio/video devices. The DP FireWire 800 PCIe can be installed in any available PCI Express slot. It comes with a built-in 4-pin power connector to provide extra reliable power source from the system and a spare low profile bracket for systems with low profile system chassis installations.

The DP FireWire 800 PCIe supports IEEE P1394b and is backward compatible with 1394a-2000 and 1394-1995 standards. It is fully compliant with PCI Express Base Specification Revision 1.0a, FCC Class B (DoC) & CE regulatory approved and RoHS compliant.

    Pros: Works great. VNC & file swap directly between connected computers while they are connected to the home network.
    Cons: Weird drivers on cd, but who cares since the base XP drivers work well enough. Showing up as 100mb speed even though the transfers are coming off much faster.

I got this to get some practical experience with FW since work got some devices and I was drafted as resident "expert," and with the economy I wanted to potentially blow stuff up at the house vs work.

One PCIe lane is 2.0Gbit/s, Firewire 800 is 800Mbit/s so all three firewire 800 ports cannot draw full bandwidth at once. This is likely irrelevant to most people purchasing the card, but keep it in mind.

    Well I bought this so I could plug my 2nd Gen. drobo into a Firewire 800 card. So far, so good...but it doesn t really seem any faster than USB 2.0 was. That s probably more an issue with the drobo from what I ve read about them but I can t really say for sure since I don t have another 1394b device to test...overall this was a GREAT DEAL for $17.99 with FREE SHIPPING!

    Cheap, easy to install, works. not free It works as advertised with both an 8 year old film scanner and a 2 year old video camera.
