Cons: Plugged it in and tested it. during test, it immediatly failed. After multiple test I eventually got down to have ONLY my computer plugged in, no monitor.... It passed the 10sec test, but battery went from 100% to 3% left. I tried a 20sec test, it failed.... Completely useless if I cant even get enough time to shut down the computer.

    October 7, 2008 A Former Customer says:
At first, I thought this would be a great product from a great company. However, after about a year, it started acting up. The battery percentage icon would read 100% and all of a sudden the power would go out. No warning...no indication...no other room or section of my house (or office yes, I bought two...same problems in both)...just on the battery backup. At work, the power just cuts out. At home, I get a long-winded beep for about 3 seconds, my computer locks up and then the power goes out. No chance to shut down. When the computer rebooted, the battery icon read 60%. and slowly climbed as the hours passed. I adjusted the Energy Saver Preferences several times hoping that the timing would help or that I could find a bug at a particular setting, but, no...The backup just cuts out when it feels like it and still reads 60% after reboot. I reported the situation to customer service and all I received was an attitude that I was doing something wrong. (It s plug play...Other than plugging in a computer and an external hard drive, what s there to do wrong?) This device appears to work properly, but it does not. Your computer will turn off without any warning or indication that it is about to. Find another manufacturer before this product causes damage to your hard drive.

Pros: Adequate Power; Reliable Performance; Quiet Operation; Easy To Setup; So far so good
    Cons: None so far
I use this product to stop my computer from just shutting down when the electricity goes out. This product shuts the computer down as if it were being shut down from the start button. So far it works good.

Pros: I'm in IT and have purchased 50-60 of these units in the last 3 years with no problems. No DOA's and non have failed yet. I find that 550VA is great for single workstations like Core2Duo with duel 19" LCD's.

None I like the flat box for ease of use and the plug layouts allow for one Large plug to not take up space from the other plugs. When needed the Batteries can be easily changed by sliding the bottom open to expose the Battery

Pros: I would say the Tripp Lite customer service stepped up and replaced the original two Internet 550U UPS devices that would not turn on straight out of the box, so that was nice.
Cons: Of the two 550Us that I received in replacement for the ones that were DOA, one of them started going bad within a month, shutting off the computer with no warning. At this point I have the computer connected to the surge protection side but I have lost complete confidence in this model of Tripp Lite UPS.

Not sure what is happening with Tripp Lite, but their stuff used to be pretty good for the price point-I presently use a Tripp Lite KVM, Console, and other UPS devices, but am probably done with this companies products after so many failures in a row.

Pros: It operates quietly and reacts quickly to power outages.
Cons: Approximately 14 months after purchase and installation, it started getting intermittent. Turning the computer on for the day meant that the UPS had to be turned back 'on' when the UPS had been on all night. At 16 months, it took turning the unit off, unplugging it, and then turning it back on again. Finally, at 18 months (the warranty period, of course) it doesn't turn on at all. Refuses to charge and no longer works. Tech support doesn't answer the calls after repeated, 30 minute waits when the wait time queue was "five minutes".

November 22, 2005 Janine Frederick says:
I ordered a few of these for the Macintosh G5 computers in our office because it was HID compliant and can regulate current (the bulding we are in is over 100 years old and the wiring is not the best so we get alot of brown outs ans surges). The UPSs were delivered quickly and in perfect condition. We opened each one and plugged them in to charge overnight (you have to turn them onto do this, ofcourse). The next day we hooked each up their corresponding G5 computer in minutes. As soon as we plugged the USB cable from the UPS to the Mac, the Power Saver feature in System Preferences recognized it immediatly. This allowed us to specify shut down settings and monitor the UPS battery from the Mac desktop. I am IMPRESSED. This a fantastic product for the price.
