    June 13, 2010 Greg says:
The basic UPS works fine... it came with the battery 50% charged and took 24 hours to charge to 100%. The Poweralert Software (downloaded from website) was difficult to set up. I m ruinning Win7 (64bit). Win7 recognized the UPS right away, but will only put the PC to sleep during an outage. Poweralert does similar, but provides battery status and alerts (text, email). Tripp lite doesn t inform you to load JAVA first before installing. Poweralert still didn t recognize the UPS. Called Tripp Lite technical support who could not resolve the issue. I tried disconnecting ALL USB plugs, rebooted, and plugged in ONLY the Tripp Lite USB cable - Eureka! I reconnected the other devices, rebooted, and Poweralert is now working fine.

Simple and intuitive setup is key when it comes to electronics equipment and I didn't even have to check the manual with this UPS. Since it's hooked up to my home theatre, I will also mention that I like the muted blue led lights and more particuarly, their wealth of good information (haven't seen in a UPS before). More importanly, I tested my stereo both direct and hooked to the UPS and could not hear any difference in sound quality. If anything, digital FM seemed even clearer (because of the steady power??).
I highly recommend this UPS. I have owned a number of them and this Smartpro outfeatures and outperforms all.

The last unit I had finally gave up the magic smoke. I returned it to my place of purchase and got my money back.

Do not purchase this UPS if you plan to power a fileserver or some other device you want to have an "uninterrupted power source". It would probably work well for an entertainment center or some other device you would like conditioned power but is non-mission critical.

Seems to be an excellent product so far, and the only reason that I am not giving it 5 stars is the plug layout on the back (although I will say probably not the products fault) but with some plugs that I have on some components, I can not have access to all of the plugs on the Tripp Lite which is really a shame as I wanted to hook up more that I can, so just a little put off by that fact.
But otherwise seems to be an excellent product.

I recieved our Tripp Lite SmartPro and hooked it up to our computer system. It was a simple process by hooking up electrical and computer cords into the Tripp Lite SmartPro box. So far I have not had any issues with this product since I haven't had any power outage. It seems to be working fine with a dispay of battery power status and voltage boost operation.

Pros: It does what it's suppose to. I've had a few power outages and brownouts with the ups automatically and immediately start drawing power from the battery.
Cons: The LCD gave out on me after a few months. It was cool when it worked and I could see the voltage rating coming from the outlet. Now it's just a solid blue screen. Doesn't really stop it from functioning but it's still really annoying.

Cant even turn off the back light for the LCD so now I have a blue colored nightlight by my computer. Fun fun.

Tripp Lite makes solid professional quality equipment using metal parts where many use plastic. Lots of thoughtful features like the phone and coax over voltage protection, voltage display with dimmer, and choice of vertical, horizontal or 2U rack installation. I have not tried the software monitoring yet. I have had the UPS one month and it just quietly does it s job and looks good too.

I purchased a DLP tv a year ago. Had it plugged into a power stip. Never thought about surges. Came home tv power light would come on and flash but no picture. Then lamp light would flash. Come to find out the power board was burnt up even when the tv was not on. In the long run and 3 months of waiting it cost me 300.00 for repair and me doing the labor no warranty. I wanted the best protection i could find. Great item!!!
the lcd panel rotates. The price is right. It helps make the lamp light last longer if you have a power failure. you have about 3 hours of back up support from battery and gives you a chance to shut the tv down with out killing the tv instantly. also helps picture and any other thing you want to protect from lightning out black outs and surges. gives you accurate voltage read out and battery protection. from cable, usb, power. Works great with entertainment centers. Makes me feel good knowing my investment is now protected. Little money for such great protection. if you spent some money on your tv/entertaiment center you need one of these before somthing happens to yours as it did mine.

Pros: Fairly low price, backup batteries keep your system up for several minutes to allow you to save file changes and the software included with this UPS will automatically save your files and shut down your system if you are not around.
Cons: The dependability of these units are about 50/50 according to the four I have had for the last two years. The manufacturer won't replace the unit if the malfunctioning batteries, software, and/or display act up. With one of my units, the display shows that the battery will not hold a complete charge. Upon contacting the manufacturer, they said as long as the battery keeps my system running for about 5 mins. before it shuts down, then it's doing its job, regardless of what the display says. The software keeps notifying me that there is an issue with the battery, so I disabled it. Now I don?t know when a problem arises. ANNOYING!!!!! Also, the software installed fine on three computers (Win 2k and Win XP) but would not load correctly on the fourth pc (Win XP). The Manufacturer was unable to solve this problem.

Pros: Works fine. The USB interface works well with both XP and Vista.
Cons: Stays pretty warm. Plugs are extremely tight fitting. Voltage display LCD gave out on me after about six months (the bars gradually went out one by one and now it's just a solid blue screen). I expected a little better than this out of a Tripp Lite product. If I had it to do over I'd probably have saved a few bucks and gotten something else.

Pros: small and compact, nice line monitoring. Vista compatible at basic level
Cons: Tech support. No 800 number and email is pretty much useless. I need 4 more in the same size but it wont be from Tripp Lite. Used their other products for years but insurance is offered by all the brands so what good is it if no one responds except with canned answers. These folks have ether forgotten their roots or are only concerned with large sales.
The Egg carries other brands so it is no big deal.
