This is a fine product, however it was not suitable for my Home theater room. The product has a fan that runs constantly and made too much noise. It would be fine in a computer room or any other room where noise is not as issue. I had to return it for a Tripp Lite product without a fan. It would be nice if the product literature indicated the product would not be good for a quiet Home Theater or music listening room.

Now, this UPS can have more than 2 hours standby power when we had power failure last year.

LCD Display, mounting optiones - Tower, Desktop or Rack Terrible Reliability Purchased to keep 1 Workstation and LCD Monitor running in a business application. Unit was not even a year old when failed. Did it with Pop and Smoke. No Storms, no power dips or surge. Dropped the load dead. Tripp-Lite is sending a replacement, but a little unsure of leaving unit running when no one is around. Tripp-Lite also did not arrange for return of old unit. What AM I going to do with something that smells that burnt? Getting hard to get rid of electronics these days. Guess I'll use the Batteries in something else.

    Pros: Looks nice, rackmountable.
Cons: The LCD display is difficult to read from any angle other than straight on, so if you have it mounted up high or down low you'll have to work to read it. The overwhelming negative, though, is that when the batteries near end-of-life the unit will spontaneously shut off. No warning, no alarm, no nothing--just boom, power goes off. All other equipment in the room stays up, so there's not a power problem.

All other equipment in the room stays up, so there's not a power problem. I installed this in a lights-out management setup, and kept wondering why my server would drop offline at odd hours. Now I know, and I have now purchased an APC UPS. There is absolutely no excuse for a UPS to drop power to a connected device when it has line power available.

I have ordered several of these for use at work in various applications which include computer setups. Not only is this ups great for protecting your pc but it looks great. The fact that it will shut down your pc for you helps to protect from data loss. Setup is easy and we use the rack mount feature that allows us to save space in existing test setups. I have had several in use for well over a year and had no battery issues yet.

Pros: Low cost unit that is acceptable for backing A/V equipment. Works fine aside from the heat issue below.
Cons: Failed after 1 year. Poor design has the batteries placed right next to the inverter transformer with no adequate cooling. Heat from the transformer will eventually cause the battery shells to to crack open and fail. Tripp-Lite provided a warranty replacement without requiring sending the dead unit back which I thought was unusual, I believe they are aware of the issues with this unit.

I opened the dead unit to find out about the heat problem with the batteries. Despite what Tripp-Lite says, if you have minimal electronics knowledge you CAN replace the batteries in thes units, simply unscrew the top cover and the 2 batteries can be easily unplugged and replaced. If you get a warranty replacement don't throw away your dead one, I was able to get my dead back up and working again with new batteries.

Price. 6 regular spaced outlets and 2 for "wall warts". Dimmable display. Can't replace batteries. No failure/trip indicator. Rackmounting hardware doesn't fit correctly. No cooling. This is junk. The unit shutdown once, a few months ago. And now died. No surge. No storm. Dead. I suspect the internal (non-user replaceable) batteries failed (some indication would be nice...like REPLACE BATT) but for the unit to die? No power to outlets, no bypass. I do NOT recommend. Breaker is fine. Internal fuse are fine.
I bought this unit over an APC as this was for home AV center. You know, keep the stereo and Xbox going if a spike, surge or power outtage hit. But APC, as reliable as I know, was too loud (designed for data centers, not dens). So I found this TrippLite Smart1500LCD. Worked for one year.
I opened it up and found two CPS1290 batteries (which I am going to see if they are the cause). Again, you get what you pay for.

Pros: There aren't really any pros when compared to the competition.
Cons: At my last job I worked with several models from the competition and none had the problems this Tripplite is giving me.
A few months ago the battery level would jump down and then refuse to charge back up until you to a self test or reboot the UPS. That seemed to have cleared itself up some how.
Now any time the thing switches over the battery the whole UPS just shuts down. There aren't any warnings or faults. It doesn't say that the battery needs to be changed or that the wiring is bad. It does this even when there is nothing plugged into it. Self test shuts it down as well. It's completely useless.
It still has 4 months left on warranty so we'll see if their customer service is any good.

Pros: Bought two of these units about a year ago, the first one died about 3 months ago, the second just died. TrippLite mailed me a replacement UPS each time. Their replacement service is great.
Cons: The way that these failed are super lame. The first unit would refuse to turn back on, and the second unit would turn on and run a short amount of time (1-4 days) and then just turn off without warning. None of the failures coincided with any service outage. My biggest complaint is that they would not continue to pass power through. If they would of degraded to a glorified power strip, then my servers would not of gone down!

Had a few incidents where the tripplite provide the advance warning I needed to shutdown my workstation. For the money I spent on my gear vs what this item cost.. it was definitely worth it. The biggest con I have is the buttons to turn off the unit takes baby fingers to press.. and the LED is tremendously bright.. I had to cover it over the night when I sleep.

    Pros: Nice LCD display.
Cons: 2 units failed in less than a year. The bad thing is that they seem to work OK until you need them most. When the power went out so did the UPS. It really defeats the purpose of having the thing in the first place.

LINUX software would not install on ubuntu. Could not find libc6, I could not seem to MAKE it find this library. Path must be hard-coded.
Drivers under NUT do not seem to work either.
If NUT drivers do not work, even the tripplite ones, these guys must be doing something active to thwart NUT. I'd avoid them out of protest of this practice
